Windows 10: Windows 10 installation freezing after first reboot

Discus and support Windows 10 installation freezing after first reboot in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; I wasn't able to start the install last night due to technical difficulties, so I'm just going to do it now. I'll report back later today. LOL,... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade' started by Axington, Sep 5, 2015.

Okay, so I just ran the installer and it still didn't work, but this time it actually happened at a reasonable speed, so if nothing else, that implies some progress. So I guess what I'm going to need to do is copy my netgear smart wizard installer onto a usb device, wipe the disk clean, reinstall windows 7, get my netgear tools reinstalled, then use that internet connection to get an ISO? (I have to have those netgear tools to use the internet at all.)

yeah, those technical difficulties involved me accidentily turning my pc off when it had updates queued, making me have to sit through their installation. It being 4 am, I really didn't have the energy to make it through that and start the 10 installation.

The worst is when you successfully installed updates and something goes wrong and you see a message saying reverting windows updates so they all fail lol.

    Hi Axington.
    Yeah, that's promising.

    - I am not familiar with these Netgear tools. Can you give me a link to check them out please? I guess I don't understand why you can't just plug an ethernet cable into the rig and be online? Do you have to use wireless?

Edit: Please give me the model number of your wireless USB adapter and I will look it up. Thanks.

    @Axington @simrick

I would say to just leave the Netgear card plugged in. 7 should install a driver for it during installation. The drivers are common.

Well, that's what I thought, and then I found this.

In some instances, Windows 10 users have reported connection and driver issues with their A6210 wireless adapter. These issues can occur if:

    • Your adapter was connected during an upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10.
    • The updated adapter driver was not properly installed (The Windows 7 driver is not supported in Windows 10. A new driver needs to be installed)

Of course, I don't know what his model is....

Since he's failing early in the upgrade process, that is an indication of driver issues. I wonder if this is it?

I'm thinking you found it and that's it. It makes perfect sense. Nice find

Axington, do you have an Ethernet cable that you can use and be able to plug in so far as distance from your router or another WiFi card?

This is what a friend of mine is reporting with his laptop > Sit-n-spin. Probably no driver for his onboard card.

Edit: I guess we'll have to wait for his card model first.

It's the WG111V3. I just set it up and everything with a new copy of windows 7 on this thing. Though, the installation was really clunky and stuff and because I had to try at installing it multiple times, the name of the device on device manager ends with #2, though no other copy of the drivers is installed.
As for me using alternatives, that's just not an option right now. my room isn't the one our router is in, and I don't own an ethernet cable, let alone one that long.
Should I get my AMD drivers again? Then re-remove the catalyst tools as well? Right now, its just using those default drivers that make the screen super low res even on an HD monitor like I have, which is fine for a temporary time until I have 10 installed, so ease of use isn't an issue, its just if those drivers are necessary for this to be done or not.

Edit: I'll be able to go into town tomorrow to see about getting either a different wireless adapter or an ethernet cable. If you guys know of a model that may actually work with windows 10, I'd rather use wireless, because it's just really inconveniently far to put a cord.

According to this: NETGEAR Support | WG111v3 | WiFi Adapters
there is no driver for 10. Up to W7 only, so it's outdated.

Look online for a new adapter or a local store. I'd research online, get some model numbers, then go to a store.

I'm going to try best buy. Probably a good store to try for this kind of stuff, right?

I would upgrade via ethernet as well if possible , much less of a chance of screwing up.

It's a good a place as any I guess. How long a cable would you need to go Ethernet? Perhaps just temporary? Depending on $ of course. It'd be nice to go that route permanently if at all possible. I just did. So much quicker.

I disabled "fastboot" and all seems to be well now , thanks everybody . I see very little difference in boot speed between enabled and disabled so i will keep it disabled. That constant freezing was a big pita.
