Windows 10: Windows 10 installation freezing after first reboot

I do ? Very pleased i received reps but if you don't mind , what exactly is a rep ? I hope it's not dangerous .

Well, I'm still going to wait until I've fully installed 10 before I mark this as solved just to be safe. But, we are pretty sure this is solved, so, huge thanks to everyone who has been so patiently helping me, especially simrick. I look forward to using an OS that isn't outdated. Thanks so much, everyone.

 

I would say, if you are able to get through the upgrade without your AMD drivers, I would do it that way. As long as you can see well-enough with the default low-res, let's keep this installation squeaky clean until we get you upgraded. Then, you can start installing display drivers and programs. Once upgraded AND "activated", all is well - you'll be able to "clean install" W10 as many times as you want/need.

 

Okay. This current installation isn't perfectly clean, but I'll make sure to fresh install it one more time tomorrow then. Doesn't take too long.

This was great to see this unfold as it did. It took team effort to solve it. One thought from someone lead to the next and so on. It'll be nice when we hear the fat lady sing! *Biggrin

And yes, try to do a bare bones upgrade as much as possible, Axington. I always try to let the system run for a few days to work any kinks out before adding to it.

 

LOL! A "rep" is a reputation point. We give them out when they are well-deserved. You can see the little "thumbs up" below a person's post, under their My System Specs link.

p.s. FWIW I don't see much difference on my laptop with Fast Startup turned off either....but then, my system isn't the fastest in the world...Here's a thread you might want to browse. They have a little script you can run to test your startup time.

Oh well , "fastboot" doesn't seem to be the only culprit in the freezing , just restarted and had a freeze again.

 

Arrrggggghhhhh! I see you have a laptop there. How's the battery? Less than 2 years old and working well?

 

There are a lot of different solutions people have mentioned in this thread. Perhaps one may pertain to your system?

 

Funny you should bring up the battery , for the last few months i have noticed that when i plug in the AC power cord the laptop does not always recognize it , it has always been plugged in with the battery installed by the way .

The battery seems to be fine , it never gets to a critical level because if it dips below 60 % all of a sudden the AC power cord shows next to the battery icon showing that it's charging .

Very odd , sometimes when i remove the battery and plug in the cord the laptop will not power on while at other times it will . It always powers on when the battery is installed.

When i plug in the power cord with the battery already installed you don't see a power cord logo , only when the battery gets to a certain level will you see the charge indicator .

This condition has never caused any issues with freezing in Win 7 though, only in Win 10.

 

Wow, yes, that's odd. Well have a read of that thread I posted above. There are a lot of different solutions people have posted, and some may apply to you.
