Windows 10 installation on HP Stream 7 Tablet

    Hi everyone!

    This is what I got:

I am trying to upgrade my Stream 7 Tablet from Win8.1 - Win10
The tablet has been reset to factory settings & my Microsoft account is synced with the device.

What are the ways I can download/install it. like step by step please. Having trouble since Nov.
The stuff I have for the process:
-64 GB SD CARD with CARD reader
    -USB OTG cable
    -Charging cable

I know it's possible to use a sd card instead of a USB Flash but that's all I really know.

    anything will help

    -Brex

    :)

Can I Unlock Display Rotation for Windows 10?

I'm also having the same issue with my hp stream 7 tablet. The button is now missing. Had the button before installing windows 10. Windows Installation seems like it installed on the tablet as a PC or laptop and not an actual tablet display.

For now, download the iso file and then do the Upgrade Install first. When all done and activated, you can then burn the iso to ab USB for future use.

Use this Tech Bench link and download the Windows 10 iso file:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...brrWLRbagYCa0w

scroll down to Select Edition > click the pointer at the right and select Windows 10 > click Confirm.
click the pointer and select Language > make sure you pick the same language the computer is now running > click Confirm
select the bit version, 32 or 64-bit. Make sure you select the same bit version as the computer is now running.
at the bottom, click the pointer next to Save > click Save As > navigate to a folder of your choice > click the chosen folder > click Save
The iso will start downloading to your chosen folder.
When it is done, go to that folder > open the folder > right click at the iso file > click Mount > click Setup.exe
    Installation will begin.
It will allow you to keep you files, settings and apps.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.

At any stage of the installation, if you face something you are not sure how to continue, STOP and post back for your question. Of course, that will require you to have another working computer.
Don't assume. We will give you what we know.

can I put the image on a sd card? Well I tried it (internal sd card) and it kept giving me a problem. So now I'm installing it through a sd card reader. once that is done can I put the sd card back in the tablet once it is mounted? I'm worried that the upgrade will drain the battery before it installs all the way and my charging piece on the USB OTG isn't working -

update: I put the sd card back into the tablet and I think its working ! yay Windows 10 installation on HP Stream 7 Tablet :)

If you install an operating system, you have better plugged into your AC adaptor and into the wall socket.

I did. the problem I was having is the mounting the image onto a sd card. I used the SD CARD READER and pasted the downloaded file you had me download onto the sd card (64 gb) then mounted it.Then I took the card out of the reader and put it back in the tablet. Ran the app & it is currently upgrading . Thanks a bunch! finally can get rid of this horrible KindleFire. *Tongue

    Thanks again

    Nice.
If upgrade is successful and activated, run it for a day or 2. If no issues, come back to this thread and mark it as Solved.
    Good luck.

Once you upgrade, export your drivers to back them up as tablets often use some special drivers not in standard MS iso.

You may need this if you ever need to clean install Windows 10.

It would have been better to do this before you upgraded, but too late now, so I hope upgrade works fine.

    Hello!

I just want to share an important tip to save your the frustration and hours of trying. HP Stream 7 like many other Windows tablets is UEFI only, you cannot boot into CSM (legacy) mode. Creating the USB Flash drive installer with Rufus using the default settings (UEFI+CSM) doesn't boot in these devices, so your only option to install Windows 10 32-bit on these is to start the Setup from Windows 8.1 and then select to do a clean installation (not enough free space for in-place upgrade to 10). What do you do when the Windows 8.1 installation is corrupt and you cannot boot to the desktop? One solution is to hold the volume down and the power button to enter the Service menu and then select F11 (Recovery). Then select to reset Windows installation and thereby repair it before you can start the Windows 10 installation. And if it is too corrupt you cannot even reset it? You are stuck...well no!

No there is a solution! Just modify Rufus settings while creating the USB Flash driver. Load Rufus, click the CD icon to select the Windows 10 ISO as usual. Remember you need a 32-bit version, as most tablets don't support 64-bit. Before you click on Start to begin creating the installer, change the "Partition scheme and target system type" to "GPT partition scheme for UEFI" from the second drop-down list (see photo). That's the change that makes all the difference! Click on Start and let Rufus create the installer. Then download all available Windows 10 drivers from HP and copy them to a folder inside the USB Flash drive. When you first install Windows 10 nothing works, no touch, no Wi-Fi, so it is recommended to download every available driver beforehand and copy them to the USB. Use the HP P/N to find appropriate drivers.

Before you begin make sure the tablet is fully charged as you won't be able to use the power adapter until installation is completed. To install Windows 10 you will need the USB installer you just created, an OTG adapter, a USB hub, a USB mouse and a USB keyboard. Connect everything to the USB hub and then connect the hub to the OTG (micro-USB to USB) adapter. Connect the adapter to the tablet. Now you have all three, USB flash, mouse and keyboard connected to the tablet. You will need these as touch won't work until you install the relevant driver. Hold the volume down button and the power button together until the tablet switches on to Service Mode. Press F9 on the keyboard to select the Boot menu and then using the arrows and ENTER select and boot from the USB Flash drive. Wait for Windows Setup to load and then proceed as you would do on a typical PC. When you see the option to upgrade (no you can't) and custom installation, select custom installation. You should now see the internal storage device and the available partitions. I just delete them all (who wants to go back to Windows 8.1 using the recovery partition anyway?) and then proceed to install Windows 10 to the unallocated space. No need to create any partitions, Windows Setup will do that automatically. Windows Setup detects the Windows 8.1 core key in firmware and so it will install Windows 10 Home 32-bit without giving you any other choice. You can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro later from Windows Store, if you want to. Let Windows Setup complete until you can see the Metro interface. Click on the Notification icon at bottom right and then click to change from Tablet Mode to Desktop Mode. It is easier that way. Now click on Windows Explorer icon and browse to the folder with the drivers. Install the one referring to the chipset first and then all the others. DO NOT RESTART, until all drivers have been installed, just in case something goes wrong. After you have installed every available driver, restart. Touch, sensors, audio, Wi-Fi should all be functional. Congratulations! You have completed a clean Windows 10 installation at your tablet!
