@ Kari, If your ToDo list is anything like my wife's Honey-do list you're going to be awhile. Every time I get one thing done on the list she will find 2 more things to replace it.

@Dude, here's how I do it, put very short:

I do the recording with Microsoft Expression Encoder SP2. Because it is no longer in production, MS gives it out for free: Download Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) from Official Microsoft Download Center. Installation asks a product key which can be skipped, it is no longer needed. I record using Expression Encoder Screen Capture tool, and encode the raw material with Expression Encoder to a 1080 HD video.

I use Hyper-V virtual machines; the Expression Encoder is running on my host but I record a vm. I am running a build 10041 host, and record either 10041 or 10049 virtual machines.

When ready, I open the raw video in Windows Live Movie Maker 2012:

Here I will do the basic editing, add text slides, record narration, fast forwarding some sequences which for the purpose of the video I want to be included but which when running 1:1 time take too long making the video too boring, stuff like that. When ready I save the video in 1080 quality.

Thereafter the only not free tool I use, I go to Adobe CC and Premiere Pro 2014. I use it to set all my clips together, video and audio, set audio levels so that background music volume is lower when there's narration and higher when not and increase or decrease the audio levels of the narration depending on if I think it came too loud or soft, create layers to hide phone numbers and emails and such and create any animations needed:

You can make pretty good videos with free tools only, you don't need Premiere Pro or similar. I just happen to have it making it my natural choice.

That's the idea, to put it very simply *Smile.

That would be wonderful, Kari. I would love to be able to teach through video tutorials; however I don't have much of a clue about how to do it. I also tend to be too redundant when trying to write a tutorial.

I would be happy if a tutorial (written by you or someone else) appeared in the Windows 10 tutorials. *Smile

I'll make something this weekend. You have to remember I am not pro and my way might not be and most probably is not the right way, but that's the only way I am able to show and share *Smile.

Kari, what you posted is excellent as a starting place for me. I'll try out the method you described and see how it goes.

    Many thanks.

You are welcome. Here some stuff, all subject to you using the default settings:

When you have installed the MS Expression Encoder, you'll find it here:

The app with the small red dot in its icon is the Screen Recorder, the other Encoder.

When your screen recording is done open the capture manager (list of your screen captures) in Screen Recorder and click Send to Encoder:

In Encoder, select the encoding quality (quality of the final product, the video). Edit as you wish, for instance set an edit point by right clicking the orange marker in timeline and selecting Set Edit, set an other edit point and right click the clip in between selecting Remove clip to cut out a seqment. When done, select File > Encode to create a video file:

Notice that encoding takes time. Depending on your hardware you can count that encoding to 1080 HD video takes 2 to 5 minutes per minute of video.

Later you'll find the video each in its own subfolder in Output folder under Documents > Expression > Expression Encoder:

Now you can import the video to Windows Live Movie Maker to start fine tuning it. That's to start with *Smile.

OK. Please understand this: I started this thread to be a place where we can share our self made Windows 10 videos, and to learn from each other. If I criticize something in videos posted or do not add them to the list in the first post, I have a reason which I find good enough.

Nothing I will say or do in this thread is in no way motivated by anything else than this: to keep the list of the member produced videos as complete, valid and helpful as possible.

OK, that being said, your video has quite a serious error, starting from the 01:26 timestamp. You have to redo the video, as it is now it cannot be put on the list in the first post as it gives false, invalid information.

The Computer Description is not the same thing as the Computer Name. Your video is supposed to show how to change the PC Name, but starting from 01:26 in your video you are only changing the Computer Description, not the Computer Name.

Let me explain this further. Here's a screenshot of my home network the day Windows 8 was released back in October 2012, I do not have any more recent screenshot showing what Computer Description is. The PC Names, the individual name of each PC in my network is shown inside the green rectangle. That's what your video claims to show, how to change that. Instead, you are showing how to change the description of each PC, the part inside the red rectangle in the screenshot:

The description is basically quite useless information in home networks, I use it because it allows me to quickly see which computer I am working with when connecting to networked computers. I give each PC a description which tells me exactly which PC it is, my PC naming policy being to tell the OS, if laptop or desktop or virtual machine, and so on. A typical PC Name in my network would be for instance W10LAP03 (laptop 3, Windows 10) or W81VM02 (virtual machine 2, Windows 8.1)

But: the Computer Description is not the PC Name, the Computer Name. To change that, you have to click the Change button on that dialog your video is showing (screenshot from your video):

That's it. I hope you did not misunderstand me; your video is fine, it's just that it's not informative, giving wrong advice.

My bad, my mistake. Its different things, computer name, computer discription. Totally understood. And again sorry.

No problems, you have no reason to apologize. I wanted to explain it as clearly as I can, my point being that you need to redo the video because as it is now it is not valid.
