Windows 10 : Is Defender capable to block all internet threats?

    Hello everybody,

IS DEFENDER CAPABLE TO BLOCK ALL VIRUS THREATS AND ALLOW ME SAFE INTERNET BROWSING AND NET BANKING?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Dell laptop got updated with windows 10. It is working fine.

I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security from last 15 years and have been very happy with it. I use my laptop for lot of internet browsing + Net Banking (Bank transactions) + Online buying.

Unfortunately, Kaspersky has not released a version for windows 10! Also that windows defender which has been installed along with the OS is working on my laptop as of now!

Can some experts tell me as to:-

    (1) Is Windows Defender good and perfectly capable as an anti virus program?
    (2) Is Windows Defender also good to thwart Internet viruses and can allow me a safe browsing?
    (3) Is Windows Defender also good for me continuing my Banking transactions and online buying where i feed in my credit card details on various websites?

    (4) Should i install any Malware tool for malware check also?

In short can i depend on Defender for safeguarding my laptop and internet activities?

Any experiences / experts - views please !!

    Thanks /

    :)

  2. Windows Defender Blocks All Internet Access. Windows 10. Internet.

Windows Defender Blocks All Internet Access.

    Windows 10.

    Dell Desktop.

    DSL Internet, Ethernet-connected-Modem.

    Windows Defender Blocks Microsoft Edge.

    Windows Defender Blocks Firefox.

    Windows Defender Blocks Skype.

When Windows Defender is turned off, all internet works for all programs.

Windows Defender eventually will turn itself back on and the internet will no longer work.

Dell says it is not their fault.

My modem company says it is not their fault. I have tried a new modem and it was not the issue.

My phone company that provides DSL internet said it is not their fault.

I replaced the ethernet cable and it was not that either.

    I have updated the drivers.

    I have re-installed Windows.

I have run an Internet Troubleshooting.

Nothing helps. But I know Windows Defender is the problem.

I also turn off the firewall too.

    Hi there

NO AV can protect against ALL threats - but Defender is as GOOD (or BAD) as anything else depending on your point of view.

My take on this is that actually MOBILE PHONE (or M-Banking) is probably safer than using a PC. But Buying goods over the internet using a PC is on the whole pretty safe if :

    1) Use reputable sellers / well known merchants - if there are problems / security breaches you should be able to get compensation if it goes wrong.

    2) Buy using a CREDIT rather than a DEBIT card - in most countries you are protected against Fraud / non delivery etc if you use a CREDIT card - not sure why this doesn't apply to debit cards but who ever said Banks were logical. If the Goods don't appear or are not fit for purpose you can get your money back from the CREDIT CARD company --useful if you buy something - say a Holiday and the company goes bust before you have the holiday etc.

    3) You MUST take reasonable security --Banks won't recompense you if you've fallen say into OBVIOUS and well publicised scams.

So my advice would be - for Banking - moving money, checking balaces, direct / regular payments etc - forget PC Banking but use Mobile phone.

For other transactions - (buying goods etc) pay over Internet OK BUT IF POSS USE A CREDIT CARD rather than a DEBIT CARD.

    Cheers

    Hello Everybody

I am using a Dell inspiron laptop (Core i5 + Nvidia Graphics GE Force + 4 GB Ram). Recently my OS got upgraded to windows 10.

Do not have full faith on Miscrosoft Defender. Kaspersky has not released compatible version for Windows 10 OS. I use my laptop for net banking and online buying. So need a good security software to (try*Wink) protect my laptop / internet activity.

I am planning to install AVG Internet security 2015 + Malware Bytes..... which it seems is compatible with Windows 10 OS as well as with each other.

Am I doing the right thing?

    Any suggestions / guidance??

    Thanks in advance.

Windows 10 : Is Defender capable to block all internet threats?

There's a good (& long) post on 7 forums where you can weigh the pros/cons of various AV's.

    What's the Best Anti-virus? - Windows 7 Help Forums

Malwarebytes (free or paid) is always a good choice. Be sure to uncheck the "Start free premium trial version" box at the end of the installation. If you want to buy it, you can opt to do so later. The premium version includes automatic updates & active background scanning. The free version does not & scans will have to be run manually.

Defender is fine from my experience with it, couple it with on demand scans with MalwareBytes and you'll be good.

My personal choice is F-Secure, the banking protection is second to none.

    Thanks for all reply.

Tried Kaspersky internet security 2015 latest download. OS Windows 10 days it is not compatible and did not allow installation. Kaspersky internet security 2016 is not launched for India (Only for US and EU it seems).

So have installed paid AVG Internet security 2015.
    Defender disabled.

    Keeping my fingers crossed.
