Windows 10: Windows 10 is stuck in "Attempting repairs..." screen when booting up

Hello. A few days ago I installed the drivers of a USB Wifi adapter from TP-Link, but the adapter didn't work so I restarted my PC. It still didn't work so I restarted it again. This time when booting up it got stuck in the initial BIOS screen the one with the manufacturer logo, Asus in this case, that says press DEL to go to BIOS. I didn't know what to do and was in a bit of a hurry so instead of looking for a solution in there I restarted the computer again by pressing the power button. I probably shouldn't have done that.


Now it passed that BIOS screen but got stuck in another loop: a black screen with the white Windows logo and the loading dots that first said "preparing automatic repair", then "diagnosing your PC" and finally "attempting repair"... and it got stuck there. I left it like that for many hours but nothing changed.


I looked for a solution online and tried doing some things. First I resetted the BIOS to its default settings didn't solve the problem. Then booted from a USB drive and went to the Advanced Startup Options. Tried doing a System Restore, but apparently I didn't have any restore point so that didn't work. Also tried uninstalling the lastest updates both features update and quality update, but it showed a problem while uninstalling so it couldn't complete the process.


Then I went to the command screen and wrote this command:


bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No


As far as I know it disables the automatic startup repair feature. The command was run successfully and I rebooted. This time there was no "attempting repairs..." loop, but instead I got this blue screen: I got told that I'd probably get an error while running that command it's in Spanish, translation below

The operating system couldn't be loaded because it can't find a critical system driver or it's damaged.

Looks like an important issue. What should I do now? Can this be solved without losing my files? Thank you in advance, I'd appreciate any help.

No it doesn't stop at the BIOS screen, that only appears briefly but that's normal. The problem comes after that, a black screen with the Windows logo and the loading dots appears, first with a "preparing automatic repair" message, then "diagnosing your PC" and then "attempting repair", and that's where it gets stuck.




(it's in Spanish but that's what it says when it's stuck)

If I press TAB when the BIOS screen appears it doesn't show any message, only a black screen with white lines of text but it goes away really quickly (I think it's the same that appears when I press DEL to enter the BIOS so I imagine that's the BIOS starting up and not finding anything to show) and then it shows again that Windows "attempting repair" screen, still stuck there.

Edit: I've read that resetting the BIOS to its default settings could help, and also that I should go into the "Advanced Startup Options" with a bootable copy of Windows, but I want to be very careful with this since I don't know what that does and I don't want to mess up even more. Should I do any of this, could this help?

Your BIOS sounds fine. Resetting to defaults normally doesn't cause issues as most people just run on the defaults.

Yes I would use bootable media to enter Advance Startup Options.

You could try System Restore assuming you are using restore points.
