Windows 10: Windows 10 is suddenly not activated

Hi!
I'm working on an Asus laptop I bought nearly 6 years ago (time to upgrade I know)
I bought it with a legit copy of windows 8, and I did the free upgrade to windows 10 when it came out.
Today I worked on the laptop (i'm a student and I use it to type) and it was just fine. But now when I got home and opened it (I didn't turn the computer off) I suddenly see the "Activate Windows" watermark on the bottom right side of the screen. When I go to settings and click Troubleshoot, it opens the activation troubleshooting screen, and after a few seconds of loading and "detecting activation problems" it says "Something interrupted us while contacting our activation servers. Wait a few minutes and try again" (it's written in Hebrew so I did a rough translation but I guess it's something similar in English).
Error Code 0xc0020036.
However by searching around the internet about the error code I get the impression that for some people it just means it's an illegal copy of Windows, while i'm 100% sure that my copy is legit.
What can I do?

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
