Discus and support Windows 10 - JPG and PNG opening in Paint despite setting default app to Photos in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; Every time I open a JPG or PNG files, it keeps opening with Paint, even though I've set the default app to Photos by using settings and right click ->...     Windows 10 - JPG and PNG opening in Paint despite setting default app to Photos


    Every time I open a JPG or PNG files, it keeps opening with Paint, even though I've set the default app to Photos by using settings and right click -> open with... -> always use this program.Windows does this after I restart the system, sometimes even at random without restarting. So I have to change the default app every morning.Is there a way to permanently set Photos as default photo app?The computer and OS is controlled by my work.

    Hello,

    It's likely that your default application for opening photos is Paint. To change your default program in Windows 10 from
    Paint to the Photo app, we suggest that you perform the following steps:

    • On the Start menu, select Settings.
    • Go to System, then go to Default apps.
    • Select Photos or any app that you like to be the default under
      Photo viewer.

    Update us if the steps above helped you in resolving your concern.

    Photos are opening with Paint instead of Photos app

    I did as you suggested and there was no option to set the default for photos viewer for photos. The only option it gave to select was PAINT.

    I went to "set default by app" and changed those to use photos instead of paint. After changing those and these restarting my computer I then got the option to set the default for photo view to photos.

    It took quite a bit of time to change all of these apps one at a time.

    That was the only way I found to change the Photo Viewer Default to Photos.

    There should be an easier method.

    Windows 10 Photo app not showing as choice for Photo viewer default app, so unable to set it as default.

    With the lastest Windows Update, the Photos app disappeared from the list of available default apps. It doesn't show in the list of default apps in the left panel as indicated in the instruction you gave. It is in my apps, and I can open it via the start
    button and seeing it there, but when I click on any photo in a folder, it opens in Paint. I hate Paint. I finally got used to using Photos when you dumped Photo viewer and now with your damn update it removed Photos as an available default app. I can't even
    right click open with and find it there either. It is not showing up. Help me please.
