Windows 10 keeps reinstalling broken drivers for the internal WiFi adapter

I managed to get a slightly older laptop working again recently, and one of the main problems was that the internal network adapter had buggy drivers that made the entire laptop crash completely when any change was made to the device in Network Connections (disabling/enabling, running troubleshooter). The adapter was set to allow itself to turn off to save power, and I couldn't change this setting because, you guessed it, Windows would crash.

So I uninstalled the drivers, and instead now use a USB WiFi adapter. This works fine, but on the latest Windows 10 update, the drivers were back. Windows kept getting confused between which adapter to use, so when the laptop booted, it'd take me a good few minutes to get connected to the internet.

So, I uninstalled the drivers again, and was willing to deal with having to uninstall them every update, but I just turned my laptop back on from Sleep mode, and the internal adapter was right there in Network Connections again. Any way to permanently rid my laptop of this?

[Solved] Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

I noticed quite some time ago that KB3119142 (Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package) kept reinstalling itself for some reason. At least once daily. Sometimes up to several times a day. I just ignored it. It didn't seem to be doing any harm. And I figured they'd eventually fix it. Well...days turned into weeks, weeks into months, with no end to the problem in sight. It dragged on unsolved for at least the last few months. Literally reinstalling itself hundreds of(at least a hundred, felt like more) times in that period of time.

So I finally googled it a couple days ago. And just got around to fixing it today. Which appears to have worked. And it couldn't have been easier to do. I feel so stupid to have let it intimidate me for so long.*Oops! Windows 10 keeps reinstalling broken drivers for the internal WiFi adapter
Below are links to the thread that I got the fix idea from, and the official MS support info page for KB3119142(from which I quoted the above).

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Right click on Windows icon on the taskbar.
    • Select Control panel.
    • Click on network and sharing center.
    • At the left top corner click on Change adapter settings.
    • There you will be able to see the Driver name of the network Adapter next to the Icon.

    WIFI adapter keeps disconnecting

Anybody know when there might be a fix for the wifi adapter to keep disconnecting? Was on 1909 then reverted back to 1809 to try and fix but to no avail. Have to keep troubleshooting and resetting the adapter, it's BS to say the least never mind frustrating.
I've tried all the gimmicks with power mgmt and updating driver, deleting and reinstalling driver blah blah blah. Extremely disappointed with this windows 10.
