Windows 10: Windows 10 kills apps with 'out of memory', but doesn't swap.

Hello, everyone.

My problem is that Windows on my Surface Pro 3 laptop/tablet doesn't use swap, although there is plenty available.

The laptop has 4Gb of RAM, which is petty in modern times, so I set the pagefile to 6Gb fixed (because defragmenting swap is a terrible thing).

Still I run out of memory all the time, especially when using heavy apps, such a Matlab (obviously!), but swap usage is still low, about ~10% i.e. 600 Mb. I don't believe Windows can't swap out more, but how to ask properly?

How can I force stop a WP8 application that refuses to stop ?

It is really bad if there is no way to throw away an app from memory in Windows 8. Any app can hang (not just the browser.) The OS has to have a way to throw it out.
In iOS you double click the home button and then press and hold the app icon. The icon starts dangling. Just press and hold the "-" sign to kill the app. I need to do this sometimes when an app doesn't load properly in iOS. I am new to Windows 8 phone.
I am not sure if it is possible in Windows 8.

 

E72 knows bugs to be fixed

First time posting/reply, I've had an E61 then E71 for some time, just got E72, and finding it Awkward to say the least, fitted it with 8G memory card. First BIG surprise, ran out of memory, whilst taking pictures, not only that I couldn't clear the
message until I switched it off/on!

I've now installed DrJukka's Y-Tasks, and set the crash monitor ON. Now I don't get out of memory messages, but I get quite a lot of messages as follows:-

Main Kill: -11

I'm assuming the crash monitor has recorded some failure, and on opening the crash monitor I have LOTS of program crashes as follows :-

I could go on, and as I get more time, I'll try to match crash error with Application.

All I can add Nokia.. It's Very VERY disappointing, it seems as if it was rushed out to market without any product testing, as mentioned previously, Camera is a right pain to focus, what's the point of a better 5M pixel camera if you can't focus the images!

The memory usage is a real BIG problem, you'd have been better putting the OLD E71 apps on, they would have been great with a faster processor, and more memory to play with, at least a LOT more stable!



Hope Nokia take notice and put effort into fixing these problems, It doesn't take much for us to find other phones, from other manufacturers. To keep a loyal customer base, you REALLY need to fix these problems a lot quicker.
