Windows 10: Windows 10 laptop battery draining in Stand-By

I have read that hibernating is basically shutting down the PC, while saving the work on a file. Hence, shutting down or hibernating would basically be the same for me. My laptop: Asus Zenbook Pro (2018 version).

I actually have an awful experience with the Stand-by mode though. With standard Windows battery settings and "balanced mode", my Zenbook Pro (2018 version) should technically move into hibernation after 180 minutes. Yet, today again, I closed the lid (having 35%) and I find myself after 5 hours with zero ("0") % in battery life. I did have Firefox open, which could have driven the computer to not move into hibernation. However, Windows should be clever enough to reduce any activity and block it as to save battery on the go. Any thoughts on this, or should I try turning hybrid sleep on, or instead try to find a setting somewhere to manually reduce background activity?

Windows 10 laptop on stand-by battery completely drained, laptop is burning hot

I've had a Dell Precision M4800 laptop for a number of years now, and I was running Windows 7 until recently. Since I installed Windows 10 I've had this happen half a dozen times: I will put the laptop on stand-by and put it in my bag, only to find in the morning that the battery is completely drained and my laptop is so hot I could fry an egg on it (because it was stuck in my bag).

I looked in the event log to see if it woke up, but it didn't. Here is the relevant log section:





I ran a battery report, which reflects the same:





I've looked at similar cases but it's not what's happening to me because the Windows says the battery is literally doing nothing during that time.

Can anyone help me figure out what's happening?

I would suggest you to contact your manufacturer regarding the battery issue. As of now you can power drain your laptop and check if it helps.

Follow the steps below:

• 
  Disconnect the AC Adapter.
  
• 
  Remove the Battery.
  
• 
  Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  
• 
  Reconnect the AC adapter.
  
• 
  Turn on the laptop power.
