Windows 10: Windows 10 Laptop Can't Login No Access To Admin Account

Laptop with Windows 10 is locked. Only 1 account has been used and it is a local administrator. Don't know the password for the account and the pin is saying something happened and needs to be reset. When I click the button to reset the pin, nothing happens. I cannot use any safe mode features because it prompts me to log in to the account via password. Do not know the answers to the security questions either. I tried to do a Windows reset and save personal data, but it too wants me to sign in to the admin account with a password. Same for a system restore.This is a work Laptop that was given

Locked Out of Admin Account

1. Are you using a Microsoft account or a local account?
   
2. Which version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
   
3. Is the other user account an admin account?
   

I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard at the login page and check if you are able to login to the PC.

1. At the login screen click on the
   ease of access icon at the bottom right hand corner.
   
2. Click on the on screen keyboard to open it.
   
3. Type the password and try to login.
   

If you are using a Microsoft account, I suggest you to refer the article on

how to reset your Microsoft account password.



However, if you are using a local account, then I suggest you to refer the article on

reset your Windows 10 local account password.



Note: While performing these steps, there might be a risk of data loss. You may take a backup of the data before performing the steps.

Lost admin access to my laptop and could not get an option to login with admin account

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

• What is the make and model number of your laptop?
  
• Do you use local or a Microsoft account, to login as admin on laptop?
  
• From where did you change the username?
  
• For which tool installation are you facing issues?
  
• Are you able to login to PC?
  

• What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed on the PC? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
  

• Is your laptop connected to a domain/organizational network?
  
• Where do you see login button disabled?

Unable to access Admin account.

Hi Jedigal.

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

I suggest you to enter Safe Mode and enable built-in administrator and check.

Step 1: Start computer in safe mode.

• 
  Type Settings in the search box on the desktop, select
  Settings.
  
• 
  Here select Change pc settings and then
  General.
  
• 
  Scroll down to Advanced startup, click
  Restart now.
  
• 
  Click on Troubleshoot, Advanced options, and Startup Settings.
  
• 
  Click Restart, select
  Safe mode and then press Enter.
  

Step 2: Enable Built-in administrator.

• 
  Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press
  CTRL + Shift + ESC.
  
• 
  Click File >Run New Task.
  
• 
  Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  
• 
  Type CMD.
  
• 
  Type the following command and hit
  Enter:
  

• 
  net user administrator /active: yes
  (Check for the spaces)
  

6. Now log off from the current user and login to the built-in administrator account from the login screen.

Step 3: Create a new user account with the built-in admin account.

After creating new user account, press Windows key, type
Mange your account and hit Enter. Click on Family
and other users and select the newly created account. Now change the account type to
Administrator.

Note: Please follow the same steps and type
net user administrator /active: no to disable admin account after the troubleshooting is done.
