Windows 10: Windows 10 laptop will not install updates error 0x8e5e03fa

Hi I have not used my Windows 10 laptop in 2 years and when I switched it on the other day, there were alot of updates needing to install which took hours. Now there are 2 updates which will not install. I have tried downloading manually and they will fail to install.


2017-08 Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems KB4035632

2017-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems KB4041689

Is this because the update is no longer supported and won't install? I have version 1507, how do I upgrade to latest version because Windows Update keep giving me error.

Windows Update keeps Windows 10 updated by downloading and installing the latest drivers, updates and hotfixes that are being release by Microsoft. If you're having trouble installing the update, we suggest checking the answer of Arun B J
on this thread that we've found that has different methods in troubleshooting
the error code 0X8E5E03FA.

Hi just a follow up for those who may need help with this problem in the future. I've managed to solve the problem by following the steps in method 2 of this post (Windows Update error 0x8e5e03fa)
as it pertained to the same error message.

I've tried the basic troubleshooting steps highlighted in this guide: (Windows Update KB4580330 fails to install Windows 10 version 1803) but it still fails to update even if I run the standalone updater I downloaded from the Microsoft update
catalogue.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.
