Windows 10: Windows 10 Light Gray Text

Older versions of Windows used to display text in plain black or whatever other solid color was chosen, and you could control the color of each graphic element used in Windows and many apps, then save all your choices forever.


Now in Windows 10 your choices are few, and the settings are hard to adjust. But even if you choose High Contrast and turn off ClearType, text is still displayed poorly, with horrible default colors. I can't tolerate the ugliness of High Contrast, even with my own customizations, so that is not an option for me. But if High Contrast is turned off, text in Light themes is always shown in gray. Magnification reveals that many colors are actually used. In this very text you are reading, the colors range from #000000 black through #441f10 brown all the way to #e1ffff a very light blue. There is no option to display text in black, or even just in shades of gray! Again, turning off ClearType doesn't help; the text still looks gray.


If I had an option to make all regular text boldface, and and to make all bold text extra heavy bold, I would choose that and be very happy. In some apps I can indeed do that, and the result is wonderful. But not in Windows itself and all apps that use Windows settings.


I think this gray text is a bug in Windows, and should be fixed. None of the published suggestions worked for me, except for fiddling with the graphics device brightness and contrast properties, which does help a little. But the text still looks gray!


Some programs choose their own colors, but even then, in most cases, the same range of colors is used to make the text appear dim.


Note: There is already a post by this name here, from 2015, but it did not help me. If there is a way to post a Windows bug report, I hope someone will do it. Why do we have to strain our eyes to use our computer?

Hi guys, I've got a problem with Windows 10 which nobody else seems to have, that I also had in Windows 8/8.1, but not in 7.

As pictured in the screenshots above, in my file explorer and other programs such as Edge, Chrome, and Notepad, some (Seemingly random) text is much lighter gray than the other text. This is on a fresh install and complete drive format, and was not caused
by installing a program, as it happened out of the box. Also, whenever I select text, it is highlighted in that bright ugly red. Does anyone have a fix or any potential cause of this? Thank you in advance.

 

night light is grayed out.

when my windows 10 updated to windows 10 1909 version , night light is grayed out. i took some steps including deleting night option setting from registry editor but it's still grayed out. what can i do now?

Thank you for posting your response.

I would suggest that you log into safe mode and un-installing and re-installing the Graphic Driver. To do so refer the steps below:

Step 1: Safe Mode.

• Open Run Command (Windows button +R)
• A dialog box will open type “msconfig”
• Locate and select the Boot tab and select Safe with Minimal as option.
• Restart Computer
• Follow the same procedure and uncheck the safe box in Boot tab to return to normal desktop mode.

Step 2: Un-installing and Re-installing Driver

• Click on the Start button, and type “Device Manager” on the search bar.
• Open Device Manager, expand "Display Adapters”.
• Right-click the device, and click Uninstall.
• Windows will prompt you to confirm the device’s removal. Click
  OK to remove the driver.
• After the uninstallation is complete, reboot your computer.
• After you have successfully uninstalled the driver, please go to the computer manufacturer’s website, download the Windows 10 Graphics driver for your computer and check.

If the issue still persist, I would suggest that you run the driver in compatibility mode. To do so follow the step below:

Step:

a. Right click/tap twice the driver setup file and select Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.

b. Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.

c. Tap or click the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click OK.

d. Try installing the driver/software and check.
