Windows 10: Windows 10 Lite/Legacy Edition LE

Will there ever be a Lite/Legacy edition LE of Windows 10, using only the old control panel, with the "modern" app layer fully removed but Action Center Win+A retained if possible?

I preferred Windows 7 in most aspects, but the one thing I like about Win10 is the ability to keep popups hidden by setting it to "alarms only" I don't use alarms, obviously.

The reason this is in "performance" is that having the "modern environment" slows down OS performance even if background running of "modern" apps is expressly forbidden in Settings since Settings itself and such are "modern" apps

I genuinely appreciate the fact that "edgium" is provided as a Legacy app and not a Modern one.

Not only would LE be less CPU/RAM/storage read/write heavy, it'd take less space to install and less time to download the installation data of.

For this, it could also be advisable to do away with 32bit wrapper on 64bit edition of LE to have fresh OS size comparable to pure 32bit.

Perhaps make Windows LE an OS for Enterprises, to be faster to deploy?


As a separate question... why not use per-user licensing of standard Windows Home?

I.e. the users that don't have a license are in S-like feature lockdown while the user with an active subscription can leave S lockdown for their user account.


Josh.H is a registered Windows Subscriber, paying his annual fee to use Windows.

Lisa.B his cousin is not a Windows Subscriber, so can only use Store apps and is otherwise locked down to S in every way.


Instead of watermark over everything, I suggest using a green taskbar and green "window" background to distinguish the "S-locked" users on the machine, while blue is used for non-S accounts.


Pro should be an enterprise edition just like LE

It'd also be a good idea to do away with the abusable KMS and switch to VLD Volume Licensed Domain - Pro or LE system where activation happens if the user is signed into a work/school account that has an active license.


In the example above, Lisa.B would NOT be able to add her account to the system, even with Josh.H's permission until she finishes high school and enrolls in uni that provides Windows licenses
