Windows 10: Windows 10 local area network path not found - cannot share

Hi, I'm stumped with this one. I have 2 Windows 10 PCs and a fairly ordinary LAN but I cannot get them to share reliably. I get "network path not found". I have tried all suggestions I've found on the web but no joy. This is the weird part: if I restart one of the 2 PCs, it works exactly as it should for a while (maybe a minute or so) then fails. It's like there a program starting late on boot up that's killing the LAN. I can ping the other machine and the internet works fine. I have tried disabling Defender. They are both Dell PCs. The one I'm referring to above is Version 20H2 (build 19042.1165) the other is Version 21H1 (build 19043.1165) Many thanks in advance.
