Windows 10: Windows 10 local / Microsoft account login and an Xbox

The situation I thought I had was that my laptop was on a local account and my Xbox was set to use my Microsoft account. The laptop and Xbox had different passwords, the laptop an avatar I had uploaded and the Xbox one of the built in ones.

So I thought I would change my laptop to the account login and start using 2 step verification with the Microsoft app.



Turn out I was already using my Microsoft account on my laptop and now I have set up 2 step verification it works fine with the laptop / websites and the Xbox.



Is it just as simple as being able to have a different password on my Xbox or is something else going on.

Also kind of a moot point as using the app to control logins means no need for a password.

Windows 8 with 2 Microsoft accounts?

Yea, I would create a local account and just use your school account to login to Outlook and Onedrive.

Help Removing Microsoft Account login

I am not sure if you want to switch to a local account instead of your Microsoft account, or if you want to keep your Microsoft account but login automatically instead of having to type the password.

Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

• Launch the Store from your Start menu.
• Click the user icon next to the search box.
• Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
• Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
• When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
