windows 10 log in screen does not have a place to login after sleep

After I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 I have a strange problem.
After my laptop sits over night when I go to use it in the morning, when I shake my mouse or hit a button so I can log in all I can see is the Windows start screen but not the circle with my profile photos or the place to log in. I do have the controls in the lower left for shut down, ease of access, and Connect to the Internet.
I have my power setting so the computer never sleeps when it is plugged in. All my other settings anr at the default for the Balanced Plan. I have tried some of the other standard power plans put the same thing happens.
I am fairly good at troble shooting problems but this one has got me stumped.

Activation of WindowsDefaultLockScreen failed: eventID 3864 and 3863

I believe I have the exact same issue. Same error in event logs but mine fill the logs when my PC wakes from sleep mode and I go to login. It sputters and hangs at the login screen for a bit then finally logs me in. Once logged in the events stop filling
the event log so it does appear to happen after the PC had been in sleep mode.

Login Screen Only Working After Restart

Whenever I boot up my computer or wake it from sleeping, the lock screen will appear, but clicking to bring up the login screen only gives me a blank login background with only the wifi, accessibility, and power options available in the corner. The account
picture and password box just never show up.

Restarting the computer does not have this problem (whether from the desktop or the login screen, both work fine), and I am able to log in after that, but waking from sleep or booting from being powered off still do not work, and then I have to restart it
again in order to log in.

If I sleep the computer immediately after restarting (and before logging in), then waking it does work normally, but as soon as I have logged in, sleeping and waking brings back the issue.

I have tried using the netplwiz options to both not require a login and alternatively to require hitting ctrl-alt-del in order to login. The latter option changed nothing, and the former option just caused an endless loading screen every time.

I think this started happening after the first update following the anniversary update, but I'm not entirely sure. I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem. It isn't getting in the way of anything in particular, since I can still log in
by restarting, but it's been bothering me since around that time, and it's getting very annoying.

Hello pvkid, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

Do you mean that you see the lock screen like below instead?

If so, you should be able to click on it, or press Enter to see the sign-in screen.

Yes I see that screen first and when I click on it or shake my mouse it slides to the top like normal and then there is the sign in screen with out a place to sign in and no circle with the photo. This only seems to happen after it has been sitting all night it normally does not happen if it has been sitting 2-3 hours. I have searched but have not seen another problem like this.

Ok I have done this. I will let you know in the morning if the problem went away. This is sort of a hit or miss problem so 1 day of testing will not give the complete story.

You could refresh or reset Windows 10 to most likely sort it. *Sad

You won't lose your data in your personal folders doing a refresh, but you will lose all apps you installed. I would always recommend to back up anything that you do not want to lose to be safe.

    Refresh Windows 10

When you say apps do you mean any programs I have installed. I have not really installed any apps.

It will be for both desktop apps (programs) and Windows apps.
