Windows 10: Windows 10 Mail app missing Focused Inbox for Gmail accounts

On my Surface Pro 4, I was able to have my Gmail inbox in the native Windows 10 inbox app use the Focused Inbox feature. I get a lot of clutter and marketing emails, so it was really handy to find the signal among the noise. With Google killing the Inbox app, I decided to move over to the Windows 10 app on my Surface Book 2, thinking that Focused Inbox would be a good replacement.


However, despite my best efforts, I can't seem to enable Focused Inbox for any Gmail accounts. I've tried, and the Mail app says that the feature isn't available for my Gmail account. However, I know that the feature is available -- it's available on my Surface Pro 4, which was running Windows 10 1803. My Surface Book 2 didn't have the feature on 1803 OR 1809, which is really annoying. Outlook on my phone is able to use Focused Inbox just fine without me needing to touch anything, and Outlook on the web is also able to use my Gmail's Focused Inbox.


I'm wondering if this is a bug in the Mail app, or if there's an easy way to "force" it to update and realize it can use the Focused Inbox. All the questions I've seen on the web relate to when Microsoft was still rolling out the feature -- now it should be live, and I know I have access to it because it works on other computers. Any help?

Mail app and Gmail Focused inbox

I wanted to know how to activate focused inbox for my gmail account using the mail app in windows. Focused inbox works for my outlook exchange account but it is unavailable for gmail when I try to activate it. From what I read focused inbox was made
available last spring for Gmail.

 

Focused Inbox for Gmail in Mail App?

Setting up my new Surface Pro 4. Mail App (the one like Outlook for mobile devices; not Outlook for desktop) does not offer a focused inbox for my Gmail account.

Unified inbox would be great, but I need to have the focused inbox for the other (exchange) account. So right now I have to choose between one or the other. A web search brings up announcements from April 2017 that say focused/other splitting is rolling
out for Gmail. It's been months since those announcements were posted. Should I expect that it would be available to me by now?

I have already added Gmail to Office Outlook on the same PC, which required setting up two-factor authentication for the Gmail account. Could that have anything to co with the inability of the Mail App to generate a focused inbox for my Gmail?
