Windows 10: Windows 10 Mail App : Your Yahoo account settings are out of date

I've gone through the write up on solving the problem "Your a/c settings are out of date" available on Microsoft Support Site. On clicking Settings of Mail app-> Manage A/c-> Yahoo a/c, the Yahoo A/c settings opens. There an old password of 16 characters is shown. My current password is 11 characters. I tried to change the Yahoo A/c Settings password to 11 characters several times but failed. I even ran "CCleaner" to remove "Saved Passwords" -> Restarted. No success. I Uninstalled "Mail" App using Windows Powershell & Reinstalled from Windows Store. Still no success. A screen shot of the "Yahoo A/c Setting with 16 character Password" is enclosed.

it has nothing to do with firefox. I get the popup as a windows 10 bonus, regardless of what browser I use. thanks!

 

Afaik the extra ** are just to disguise the length of the password & not reflective of the actual password.
Do you have any two-step/two-factor authentication on your Yahoo account? If so then you may require an app specific password to enter instead of your usual Yahoo password.
Have you tried deleting the Yahoo email account?
There was an email sent from Yahoo recently that informed the users to change their password due to a hacking incident, it may be that someone has changed your password & you need to verify who you are with Yahoo in order to create an new password, if you can log into your Yahoo account then an hacked account is not the case, so we're back to an authentication issue.

 

I am able to log in to my Yahoo a/c through a Browser(Edge/IE). I do have two-step/two-factor authentication on my Yahoo a/c. However, it provides only a ON/OFF toggle for "Allow apps that use less secure signature". There is no "Manage App Password" as mentioned in "Yahoo User Forum". I was tempted to change my Yahoo a/c Password by "Copy & Pasting" the one incorporated in "Mail" App. By clicking the "show password" button I learnt that it is only alphabet part of an incomplete sentence. So I stopped short. The basic problem is I am unable to reach "Credential Manager" as an Administrator to change this password. I've Run msconfig in "Diagnostic" mode -> Restarted, then tried to change this "Password" but failed. As mentioned before I've tried deleting the Yahoo a/c & adding again. I've also uninstalled "Mail" using Windows Powershell & Re-installed it from Windows Store. No success

 

How about setting up another yahoo email account and see if the same things happen,Thats what i did when i wanted to find out why i wasn't getting a option in the sync settings.

 

Have you followed the instructions here for creating an app specific password?
This what it says:

• Go to your Account info page | select Account security.
• Find "Manage app passwords" and click on the name of an app you use.
• Select your app from the drop down menu and click Generate.
  - Your app password appears. (You can long press to copy it.)
• Follow the instructions below the password.
• Click Done.

The "Generate Passwords" page saves a complete list of your authorized apps. As another layer of security, under the App Passwords section you'll also see a timestamp of the last time you used an app password with that app. From there, you can also remove access to the app if you lose your mobile device or stop using an app.

I have two factor authentication on my Yahoo account.
