Windows 10: Windows 10 Mail - Cannot Add AOL Mail Account

AOL Mail stopped receiving emails on 8/4/18.


Went to my account - Mail - then tried to click on my AOL Mail account it would not open for me to see if there were any issues.


Next I contacted Microsoft Support and they scanned all system files & drivers and was not able to fix problem so they deleted my AOL Mail accounts and uninstalled Microsoft Mail. Then they reinstalled Microsoft Mail. Then they tried to add my AOL Account and what happens is that keep running "looking for your settings" for hours and were never successful.


I still do not have my AOL Mail accounts and have been researching on my own trying to Add Account to Windows Mail Application using the proper AOL IMTP and SMTP protocol received from AOL and all that happens is that it keeps running "looking for your settings" all night long.


On Add Account I entered to following:


IMAP.aol.com and tried with Port for SSL IMAP.aol.com:993 provided by AOL support

SMTP.aol.com and tried with Port for SSL SMTP.aol.com:465 provided by AOL support


I tried this with and without check marking the 4th box related to Outgoing SSL


Still unsuccessful. I really need this working rather than going to my browser to log in every time to use my AOL Mail account.


Any help out there?

I need a slick E-mail program!

My parents are absolutely stonewall about keeping AOL. The best reason they can give me for keeping it is the easy to use E-mail interface. I ain't arguing, I haven't found anything easier to use, but it TAKES SO MUCH MEMORY! And so I'm thinking that if I can find something nice and easy to use, I might be able to get my parents to use it instead of AOL, and finally get the bloatware known as AOL off my computer! The requirements-

• Must be easy to use
• Can't be browser-based (so AIM mail, Yahoo, and MSN are no-no's)
• Preferably compatible with AOL mail, my parents don't want to switch E-mail accounts
• Can't be Mozilla Thunderbird...I tried it and it sucks in terms of multiple E-mail accounts, and it erased all my saved mail *Frown .

Any ideas?

Hello tynaskos, I’m Virginia an independent advisor here.

I’ve seen that error on accounts which have two-factor/step authentication where the user requires an app specific password which is entered in place of the account password.

Does the AOL account use this security feature?

If not then check the usual ‘suspects’: username & password, whether the account uses SSL & whether the port numbers are set correctly.

The IMAP settings for AOL mail are as follows:

AOL Mail IMAP server address: imap.aol.com

SMTP Outgoing Server Address: smtp.aol.com. Set the port to 587

SMTP password. The password you use to log in to AOL Mail
