Windows 10: Windows 10 Mail "Junk Email" folder includes read messages in unread count

I have Office 365, and use Outlook.com as the mail server. I normally prefer to use Windows 10 Mail as my local mail application.In the Windows 10 Mail local application, my Junk folder always shows the total number of read and unread messages, even if there are no unread messages in there at all. The Inbox folder message count, in the same Folders list, only shows the count of unread messages.This behaviour is consistent, and has always been this way as long as I remember. I have no idea why the two folders show unread messages differently, and I cannot find any way to change it.If I use t

Taskbar Mail icon continues to show unread mail count after emails are read

The mail icon in the task bar continues to show unread mail when none present. I have my Hotmail and 2 other personal email accounts in Windows 10 mail app. Sometimes the unread count (number in a circle over the bottom right portion of the mail icon)
does not clear. After reading unread emails (from the 3 accounts), the unread count over the icon remains. No unread emails are present in Mail. I log into each account via the respective web portal or via Outlook 2016 (for my Hotmail acct) and no unread
mail is present. The number will remain even into starting Windows 10 the next day, not changing value even though new mail has been received, read and or deleted via other email access (mobile phone).

UPDATE: While typing this question, I received 1 new email (to my Hotmail acct). A "slide-in" message from the action center displayed a new email received and the number on the icon immediately changed from 5 to 1. Maybe that's the way to clear - leave
Windows 10 running until a new email is received??? (at the time, the Mail app was NOT running).

Also, after reading the mail(s) received and shutting down Mail app, the unread count disappears momentarily then re-appears on the icon when the Mail app closes.

This is no longer a question but more an FYI. This is about how to resolve an apparent bug in the Mail app.

 

Windows Live Mail Junk not junk

I don't see those options on my Hotmail account....on the web <---- I access my email from on the web, not on my desktop. Here is a pic of my Junk mail folder....on the web...






Hotmail.com AND Outlook.com are same mail programs.....on the web....

 

Windows 10 Mail Indicates Phantom Unread Message

I am having a problem with Windows 10 Mail in which the icon in my task bar, and the icon in the start menu, indicates that there is one (1) unread message available. However, all messages have been retrieved and read.

I had this problem before, quite some time ago, and reported it here in another thread. At that time, the solution offered solved my problem. However, this time, the solution is not working. I can't seem to get rid of the phantom unread email count.
