Windows 10: Windows 10 Market Share - No Change

When was the last time you tried performing an upgrade because the 'free upgrade' still works?

I've upgraded a number of machines since July and every last one received a digital entitlement to Windows 10 - just this week alone I've upgraded 3 machines to Windows 10 and each one activated after the upgrade.

If you read the activation guidelines; You don't even need to upgrade, you can just enter your Windows 7 and 8 key during the Windows 10 setup and it'll activate perfectly fine (but I prefer the upgrade since it's easier to recover).

 

just got my new laptop at work with....Windows 7 installed. This is a company wide roll out and they still going with Win7.

 

Just last year, the VA finally updated all their thousands of PC's (work stations) from XP Pro to Windows 7.

Last week I was in a dentists office, where there were many PC's, all happily running Windows XP Pro.

Many places in the world are just not ready for Windows 10, and may not ever be.

We will see what Google's new Andromeda OS has to offer.

And I don't care if Windows 10 ever works, I gave it a chance and I am pretty much done with it, it offers me zero reason to switch.

You need these items to reduce the amount of updates required for a clean install of W7:

• W7 install source
• W7 SP1 (KB976932)
• W7 SP1 Update Rollup pre-requisite (KB3020369)
• W7 SP1 Update Rollup (KB3125574)

Using those items will create a W7 SP1 installation that is updated to April 2016.

A large numbers of users refused to (and are still refusing to) voluntarily replace W7 and/or the W8 series with W10.

I'm glad I didn't try to "upgrade" my W7 desktops.
I "upgraded" my W7 laptop to W10 and the install "bit rotted" after a dozen boot ups.

 

And there I suspect lies the problem, I just don't see what's the point of Windows 10 for the end user. I can see advantages for Microsoft they have essentially installed adware on your machine that they can update, change and alter at whim.

Lets say Windows 7 has never existed and next year they introduced it as the successor to windows 10 I would certainly upgrade, the reasons would be ..

1) Better start menu with much more attractive icons
2) Many more start menu choices and fully customisable interface
3) No horrible 80's retro style squares everywhere that look like they belong on a mobile phone that's not selling
4) Control of which updates you would like to install, and when
5) More private O.S.
6) No Adverts to start menu
7) No adverts on start screen
8) Cortana removed
9) Full choice of search engine, removal of the second rate Bing
10) an operating system you can fix, without constantly being advised to do a full days wipe and fresh install
11) Option to integrate if you so wish with your Microsoft account
12) No major updates forced on you, changing the appearance and function of the O.S.

and on.. and on....
