Windows 10: Windows 10 May Update, Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and Netgear GS108 switch

The May update of Windows 10 seems to have stopped my Netgear GS108 switch from working. If I connect my Realtek ethernet port on my workstation directly to the broadband router then everything is OK. If I use my old 3Com switch then all is OK. Its only when I connect my GS108 that I have connection problems. Other devices, including other Windows 10 devices are working correctly through the GS108.

RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller not working

I searched for "Realtek pcie GBE controller" in the search box on this site and found this -

I tried the last suggestion and it worked for me.

In control panel, hardware and sound, pc, it is showing the troubleshoot warning triangle. Right clck and select troubleshoot and it tells me

"Problem detected with Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

I have checked in 'advanced' etc, the driver is listed as Microsoft 10/05/2013, 8.1.510.2013 which is says is up-to-date.

Is there really a problem and if so what do I need to do?

I had a similar problem and had tried all the suggestions about re-installing drivers etc. In the end I stumbled on this which worked: I disabled Green Ethernet in the advanced settings of the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Properties.
