Windows 10: windows 10 media creation tool and its activation

i have downloaded windows 10 using the media creation tool, i assumed that the software became free to use please if i am wrong correct mehowever today it just asked me to activate windows keeping in mind i do not have a product keyso do i need to buy a product key or is there another legal way to activate my windows?
