Windows 10: Windows 10 Media Creation Tool / USB reaches 100% then closes

Hi,

I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and am currently trying to create a installation USB to carry out a clean install.

Twice now it has reached 100% and closed without any trace of the download on the USB flash drive i've chosen.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to format the drive in particular way?

Issues with installation are being resolved bydisabling the Antivirus software and also by unplugging the
external devices.

I would suggest you to disable antivirus and check the issue.



Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other
software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.



Note: Before updating, make sure you have installed all available updates to your PC.



You may also run a system file checker scan and check if there are any corrupt system files.



SFC (System File Checker) is a tool which scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

Media creation tool reaches 99% and then disapears.

I have a really slow internet connection and I tried to upgrade to windows 10 from win 8.1 and it started downloading just fine...but after it reached 99% the whole application just closed and nothing happened!!!!!

I am boiling in anger right now...I spent 7 hours downloading the update and I just don't want to download it again....please heeelp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I used the tool to download an .iso.

I had an 8 GB USB thumb drive already prepared using diskpart (format it as Fat32), so I just mounted the .iso (built-in to Win 8.1) and copied its contents to the thumb drive.

I have since used the thumb drive to clean install 10. As advertised, the clean install activated after having once done the upgrade install and activating it.

 

Definitely try creating the ISO file instead. Then do as bobkn described or use Rufus to create the flash drive to install from.
