Windows 10: Windows 10 Minimalistic Shells

Hi All,

I am building an embedded type image with Windows 10 IoT and I need a way or a shell that removes the start menu, taskbar, etc...

I need Windows to be in a state if the users get rid of the program that is running in the foreground they can't easily access system settings, Windows Explorer and Task Manager.

But still have a way to get into CMD so that commands can be run to service the machine if the need arises.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows Shell Experience Host using 35 to 55% of CPU usage on Windows 10

I understand your concern about CPU utilization by Windows Shell Experience Host, we will help you with this issue.

I suggest you to try few of the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Try to end the process from Task Manager and check.

• 
  Press Ctrl+Alt+Del together to open
  Task Manager.
  
• 
  Go to Processes tab, right-click on the Windows Shell Experience Host process and click
  End Process.
  

Step 2: Boot the computer in to Safe mode with networking and if the CPU usage is same.

Step 3: I suggest you to install all the pending updates after upgrade to Windows 10.

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type
  updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on
  Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.

Also, visit the computer manufacturer’s website and install the drivers being found and check if it helps.
