Just what we need. Another distraction for drivers. As one who got rear-ended because the driver behind me was texting I hate to see this.

    :)

That's why Windows 10 has Cortana - to speak, not type.

And drivers are not going to take their eyes off the road to look at the display?

Of course they probably will. Same as with FM radio setup etc.

Have you ever been rear ended or any kind of accident because of a distracted driver? I have and don't want to go through it again or see it happen to anyone else. Is that information worth the cost of a human life? We don't need to add more distractions.

This is something we all wish, but don't have any control over it.

Hopefully some car automation (distance control etc.) will help us with that.

  10. Large in dash, on screen touch screen, car info centers are already out there? Radio, navigation, fuel economy info? What does it matter if its running Windows 10 or not? It's up to the driver to keep his eyes on the road. In the example in the first post, the screen was already there. Somebody just connected there smart phone to it. I can link my phone to my cars system via blue-tooth and use it hands free. Nobody wants to be in an accident, been there done that. I'm not trying to dismiss your concerns, just saying that tech is already out there, and has been for a while in high end cars. Most of the navigation controls are duplicated on the steering wheel. Just like the cruse control buttons.

Things like gauges, radios and controls are distracting. The difference is that they don't require as much driver concentration as using devices such as phones or computer devices. I have no control of what accessories come in cars. If I did the only accessories that would be included would only be what is necessary to safely operate the vehicle. Do people really need to use their phone or computer devices while driving?

Just thought of another question. What do you think the percentage of user will be that will be doing such things as surfing the internet or reading their emails while driving?

Here, being caught texting while driving, will get you a fine and points on your license. Using a phone with no hands free setup in your car, while in motion, will net the same results. I'm in agreement with a lot of what your saying. It's where do you draw the line. Some car manufacturers are disabling some of those features if the car is in motion. On some high end cars it reads the message for you and a computer voice says the message. You don't have to take your eyes off of the road. It's likely still distracting though. All I'm saying is the tech is already out there. It was there long before somebody made it possible to connect your smart phone to the in dash display.

And all I'm saying is that we have enough distractions while driving and I wish that this wouldn't work.

  15. Well, great. Connecting a device to a display via HDMI works as expected!

But does it give you any ability to control the phone using the car's touchscreen or buttons?
