    Windows 10 Mobile on PC?

Hello! I currently have an old Pentium 4 PC with 2GB of ram lying around, and since there is no NX support, I cannot install Windows 10 on it. My question is, is there a iso or some kind of installer for Windows 10 Mobile, because then I could install it on the old dino, and have a Windows mobile experience, which is quite similar to Windows 10. And since its a mobile OS, it should run way better than Windows 7, because Windows Mobile was meant to run on weak hardware. Is any of this possible? Thanks! -Andrew *Smile

  2. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so i figured it out myself

    Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

    Cheers

  3. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so I also found out that this occurs when sleepmode (for me after 3 hours) changes into hibernate mode.

Seems like the going into hibernate and/or starting up from HIbernate results in a shutdown. In safeboot it works perfectly.

Anyone any idea how I can figure out where it goes wrong. Is there a way to log this (I couldn't find it in bootlog)

    Windows 10 Mobile on PC?

Windows 10 mobile is for the phones not for a computer. What do you mean by no NX support. Linux will run fine on that machine as a 64bit install, also Windows 10 will run just fine.

  5. Windows 64 bit may not run without NX support, but 32bit shouldnt care, at least I dont think.

My memory is hazy on the subject, so I checked: Windows 10 X86 (32 bit) requires the NX (Intel calls it XD, for execute disable) bit. I haven't been able to find a straightforward MS link for that, but here's one for Windows 8:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...or=-2147217396

The requirements were carried forward into 10.

Hacks have been published to get the installer to ignore the NX bit check, but I can't recommend anything like that.

I can only suggest that the OP stay with Win 7 X86. Or Linux.*Wink

I have no personal experience with Win 10 X86; all of the machines I have run X64. X64 has some additional, more obscure, requirements.

The OP has a 64-bit CPU. Both Linux and Windows will run just fine with 64-bit installs. The Atom CPU's from when Netbooks first came out were running just fine with Native 64-bit OS's.

    Windows 10 Mobile on PC?

No hacks needed, since that class of CPU's run fine with 64-bit OS's. Does not matter about XD or NX. The Prescott Core is when XD started. Segmenting has been around since 80286 days, so where the OP of this topic may not understand that any CPU when you look at the spec's with Z-CPU or in Linux with a Live-DVD, will show what the CPU is capable of.

    I have a 775 Core 2 Quad Core and two Core 2 Duo's running 64 bit OS's just fine.

You're saying that Win10 will install on a system that doesn't support the NX bit?

That's at odds with what I was able to find online.

What CPUs do you refer to? At a guess, the "775 Core 2 quad" could be the Q6600. It has the XD bit.

    Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600 (8M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) Product Specifications

    Ditto for the Core2 E4300.

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4300 (2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) Product Specifications

As regards "I have a dual Pentium 4 running windows 10 32 bit no problem.", if it's dual core, I believe it's not a P4, but rather a Core derivative.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I think that MS makes the Win10 installer want to see the NX bit. (That, even though you may be able to turn off the DEP function that uses it.) If you'd provide the exact CPU models for the old machines, it'd be simple to check whether they support NX or not. I'd be pleased to be proven wrong, but you haven't provide the details to do it.

Never stated that there was a problem. Of course a 32-bit OS will run on any machine. You are running a dead OS version on a CPU that is made to run a 64-bit OS.

More 64-bit based programs are now hitting the market, along with iOS and Android OS being exclusively 64-bit and those programs that are used the most are only 64-bit.

Yes. NX has been around since the Prescott Intel CPU came off the lines in 2004.

This is not a argument of wits, it is just simple that the OP is debating which to go and with 64-bit being now the leading in Mac OS, iOS, Android OS and even Linux. Microsoft is even selling more 64-bit versions of Windows.

The fact of the matter is still that the OP should be going with a 64-bit version of Windows and ditch the 32-bit if they wish to stay pace of programs that are coming out that are made to run on a 64-bit OS.

    Windows 10 Mobile on PC?

bobkin the other fact is that you have a 4GB Physical memory limit with a 32-bit version of Windows vs. you can get up to 512TB for 64-bit OS's from Microsoft.

Does this have anything to do with whether either version (X86 or X64) of Windows 10 will install on a PC that has no NX bit?

This is getting pretty far removed from the OP's original question.

Yes it does, because there is a limit on 32-bit OS's for memory and file size. 32-bit OS's are going away and when those software designers start adopting 64-bit as Google, Mozilla, Linux and Apple has. You will see a lot more programs and even games that will perform better.
