Windows 10: Windows 10 Movie maker keeps crashing when uploading MP4 - try working in .wmv

If you have problems uploading MP4 files leading to it crashing. Or editing them if you manage to upload try converting them to .wmv or .avi files using Any Video Converter.


Edit whatever you want in those formats - save it then use AVC to convert the finished work back to MP4#

I cannot open MP4 or wmv files created outside in Movie Maker - Windows 10

I made a video recording and want to add some music to it using the Movie Maker. I created my recording using the camera function in Windows 10. The file got saved as MP4. Now I want to import it in Movie Maker and add some music to it.

I know Windows 10 does not have Movie Maker with it, and I also know one can download it.

So, I downloaded the Movie Maker. Now I see that it can essentially operate only with those files created within the application. Those created outside the application (using the camera function in Windows 10) end up crashing the program. I tried the following

• Converted it to WMV and tried opening again - same result
• I tried opening up Properties menu from the program icon and change the compatibility mode to current Windows version. However Windows 10 was not available as a choice
  • I guess I may have partly answered the question here but the thing is why is it so?
  • Does that mean I cannot work with video files created elsewhere?
  • I am going in circles here
• I don't want to
  • Record again using Movie Maker
  • Download some other program to do all this

Any help is greatly appreciated

 

Windows Phone, Windows Movie Maker and mp4s

AFAIK Movie Maker should support mp4's. Could be a codec problem.

Anyway try convert one of your files to .wmv and edit it in Windows Movie Maker.
