Windows 10: Windows 10 my Portable Hard Drive that I back up my photo store on is showing up in File...

I have scanned this drive with file recovery software and know that the photos are still there - unfortunately this is a 2tb drive, and over a period of time has had many, many photos written to it and subsequently deleted - and it has proved very difficult in the vast number of files saved, deleted, but not overwritten to find the 100 or so missing photos that I haven't backed up elsewhere - can anyone suggest how I can restore the file structure on this device?

You can use Windows search. Just search for *.* on a desired drive. When list is done just arrange them by size LOL.

You can do it via command line as well and make an output text file showing files and their sizes (but without arrangement)

This issue could have occurred due to these reasons:

1. Missing Windows Update.

Try the steps listed here:

Method 1:

I suggest you to run hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

a) Press Windows Key.

b) Type Troubleshooting in the search box and hit
Enter.

c) Click on Hardware and sound.

d) Click on Hardware and device and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2:

If the issue persists, I suggest you to install all the available Windows Updates and also latest chipset driver from the computer manufacturer website. You may also try connecting the hard drive to a different USB port.
