Windows 10: Windows 10 Network Backup fails

I have a WD Home network drive with several shares created on it. One of these shares is called Backup. When I try to assign that drive as my network backup drive Windows tells me it cannot be used as a backup device because The specified network location cannot be used It further tells me to Verify the path points to a correct network location and the supplied credentials can be used for write access to the folder.Since I am using the administrator credentials to sign in to the drive and I have the correct password as it is the same password I am using for creating all my mapped drives and th

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

I suggest you to remove and re add the network location and check.

To delete network, please follow the steps below:

1.Deletion of Network Location can be done fromThis pc. Right Click on the Network Location you want to delete and select Delete.

2.It will ask to confirm the deletion. Click Yes.

To add network, please follow the steps below:

1.Go to this pc and click on my computer.

2.click on add a network location.

3.Then follow on screen instructions.
