  1. Windows 10 Network Share - Incorrect Credentials

    Hello,

I have ran into a problem of windows not accepting my credentials to access a network share on my computer. All of my computers are linked with a Microsoft account. Normally when prompted for credentials, I enter my Microsoft account email and password and it works. Now it tells me "Incorrect username or password" What gives?

    I've tried:

    - MicrosoftAccount\email address

    - \computername\email address

    - \computername\username

    - Adding credentials with Credential Manager

I've also noticed homegroup is gone. Was there like some big update recently?

    Thanks

    :)

  2. Network Credentials - Windows 10

    Hi Ford,

On this thread, one of the mentioned reasons why you encounter the networking error is due to an incorrect setup on the credentials. To determine the appropriate troubleshooting steps to resolve your concern, we'd like to ask the following:

    • How many devices are affected?
    • Are you getting any error messages when connecting to a network? If yes, send us a screenshot.
    • What are the troubleshooting steps that you've performed to resolve your concern?

We're looking forward to your response.

Network Sharing prompts for password (Password protected sharing turned off) - Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

As you’ve already turned off password protected sharing, this issue could be due to the incorrect cached credentials stored on the PC. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

    • Open Control Panel and categorize to view by
      small icons.
    • Click on User Accounts and choose your
      User Name.

    • On the left pane, click on Manage your credentials.
Under Windows Credentials, remove the shared computer credentials and save the changes.
    • Exit Control Panel and restart the machine to see if the issue persists.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

Windows 10 Network Share - Incorrect Credentials

Problem sharing files and Network Credentials error

Hi, networking in Win 10 is frustrating to set up and requires multiple steps- you are far from alone in reporting issues. Indeed, even when it is correctly configured people have found it needs 'help' so when you boot up or resume a PC, networking is re-established in a reasonable time.

From the Tutorial section (do take time to become familiar with this fantastic resource):
    Ten Forums - Tutorials

Here's the starting point for setting it up:
Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

Note that related tutorials are always listed after the main body of the text.

The comments following may help you assess some of the issues you've encountered.

Note you can back up and restore shares and permissions, but I've not seen a way to reset them:
Backup and Restore Network Shares and Permissions in Windows

It may be. As you might guess, it means the link is broken/not valid/temporarily not available.

This will be how you created your mapped drive:
Map Network Drive in Windows 10
(I find the title confusing, as it's really mapping a networked folder...)
Z: simply points to a folder on another PC on your network. The x will disappear when networking is established.

    Password/credentials expired: a search for
    windows netorking password expired
may help. This reviews this issue:
