  1. Windows 10 - No Internet - No path forward or back - 100% stuck

I upgraded 5 Dell machines no issue, but the 6th one, an ASUS on 8.1 was not so good.

It downloaded fine via Windows Update, installed fine, completing right to the end and then it decide to permanently cut all ties with the internet so it not activate as there was no internet access.

I checked Device Manager looks perfect. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the network card, Perfect, just no internet access.

I tried the tip about netsh winsock/ipv4/ipv6 resets - didn't help

I disabled WIndwos Firewall and disabled Avast antivirus - didn't help

Rebooted the router and the pc several times- didn't help

I cant move forward - cannot activate ( no internet access for this machine since the upgrade), so the computer WILL DIE in about 30 days when Windows 10 complains I did not activate it. I cannot move back to Windows 8.1, and it likely needs the internet for that as well.

    Two questions:

    1) Any other fixes to fix for the "no internet" issue? The only thing I can think of it to re-install off a bootable USB, but I truly have zero confidence it will work.

    2) What is the telephone number to speak to someone from Microsoft re Windows 10 install/activation issues? . I will need some help from them to get Windows 10 working so I can activate it.

    Thanks

    :)

  2. Wi-Fi is on // No connection (after Windows Update)

    On Oct 13 windows updated.

The update must've invited malware into my computer. I tried to run my antivirus after the update but it said there's no connection. Google chrome lost connection as well and then I got a pop-up saying that Windows Defender found and blocked a "Severe Trojan
threat". So I deleted it and I still don't have connection... (weirdly) the only thing that works is the Explorer app. I have internet; the Wi-Fi works just fine but, everything else doesn't connect. It's something internal that must be causing
the problem and it all started after the update.

    P.S.

It also changed my network from private to public so I had to fix that.

And YES, I did allow these programs through the Firewall so that's not the problem.

  5. I will post that info, but this issue is on my mom's machine, so I don't have access right now.

When googling the Windows 10 No Internet issue, I also found some other tips re flushing the DNS cache, which I will try.

Anyone know the Microsoft phone number re Window's 10 activation?

    Thanks

(P.S I typically don't fill the out the My System specs as I have multiple machines and can only fill out one set at a time. In this case, most of those specs are not relevant other than the model number and network card - I will get that info when I can).

This is Microsoft Canada's contact info: Microsoft Worldwide Sites and you can call their customer inquiries and I believe they will forward your call to the right place or give you the phone number. BTW, you can also contact Asus support and see if this problem is a general problem to your particular model and see if there is a solution to the problem. Meanwhile, please do post the info that Ztruker wants.

Manufacture and model number or Ausus model number. Look up on google latest win8 or 7 driver for network card and download to a usb stick. Device manager, upgrade driver and navigate to usb stick select driver.

  9. UPDATE:

This specific problem is actually discussed at length, with no solution in site, on the microsoft community forum** here:Network adapter Driver failure in Windows 10 Realtek PCIe GBE Family - Microsoft Community

The crux of the issue is that Realtek does not have, and is not planning to have, any Windows 10 network drivers, and Windows 10 incorrectly reports the 8.1 drivers as working fine, even they don't work at all.

As noted in the forum, neither Realtek nor Microsoft appear to want to solve the problem. On Wednesday (when I have access to the serial number) I can ask ASUS about it , but they will likely just offer more of the same suggestions which don't work. This is actually an ASUS/HP/Samsung issue as well - those Realtek drivers work fine on all my Dell systems -all five machines had no problem.

So all the troubleshooting to date was pointless. And no point to flush DNS entries or reinstall Windows 10.

One of the posts summarized it well : "We do NOT require technical support 101 script answers of rebooting pc, or disabling and re-enabling devices, or going back to the manufacturer to download a driver after July 29. And yes it is after July 29th. What we DO require is a solution to solve the fact that our Windows 8.1 Realtek network drivers do not work on a windows 10 operating system. Please contact Software Engineers and request assistances for this problem. A problem that numerous customers are currently having on numerous hardware platforms that was brought to your attention several months back, as early as February."

I cannot sit around with a dead machine, so the only options that come to mind (other than never buying ASUS again) are:
    • roll back to 8.1, HOWEVER I am not sure if this can be done without an internet connection
    • purchase a new Win 10 certified network card HOWEVER the Ethernet port on the ASUS M11AD is built in ; I am not sure if it can be disabled
    • cannibalize the ASUS for spare parts and buy a real machine.

  11. I ordered a LINKSYS USB3.0 GIGABIT ETHERNET ADAPTER for $17 from NCIX just to have one in the tool box. .

    But I just cancelled it.

Getting smarter in my old age. Saw some user comments complaining about having to install Windows drivers. This prompted me to contact Linksys tos ask them on their live chat if it worked with Windows 10. Answer was NO.

If I cant find a Windows 10 network card, my options are down to:

•roll back to 8.1, HOWEVER I am not sure if this can be done without an internet connection, Anyone know? I really do no want to dig up the images and reinstall from a backup or a WIndows 8 clean install.
    OR
•cannibalize the ASUS for spare parts and buy a real machine.

What a complete waste of time this was . Should have never hit "Upgrade", but who knew!

  12. Windows 10 - No Internet - No path forward or back - 100% stuck

    Update:

Windows 10 USB – Do a full reinstall from a USB. Still no internet.

ASUS - I submitted a supported ticket to ASUS/ No response yet. I checked ASUS web site – no windows 10 network drivers

Realtek - Checked Realtek web site – no windows 10 network drivers

NIC - I am still trying to find a Windows 10 certified PCIe card to see if that might work.

USB3 Ethernet- Still looking for Windows 10 certified USB3-to-Etlernet adaptor, to see if that works

WIFI - Another thought I had is wf-fi. Thought I might get an internet connection that way. The pc sees the SSID on the router, and can connect, but like the NIC, no internet capability, I check the driver- which are made by Ralink Technology. I goggled for Windows 10 driver and found a link here which has updated drivers: Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN Card Drivers Download for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP .. but is one of those malware sites. I cannot find a direct website for Ralink.

TXT files - I captured the info Ztruker requested, but I don’t think its relevant now that we know is the drivers.

Did you get a CD with an ethernet driver which came with your PC?
If so, you should try installing that ethernet driver. Run the ethernet driver install setup with permissions for Windows 7.

Before doing that you should also tell Windows 10 not to automatically update drivers:

    winkey + r
    sysdm.cpl
    Hardware
device installation settings .. and set it to not install drivers automatically. A reboot might help too.

I installed Windows 10 on my old Asus P6T Deluxe V2 and have had to do this in Windows 10 which offers the wrong ethernet driver out of the box and via updates.
The wrong ethernet drivers have been offered (by Windows) for the Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard since Windows 8!

If you know what motherboard is included in your PC, then find or download the ORIGINAL ethernet driver from your CD or Asus, and install that (with permissions for Windows 7).

This should actually be quite easy once you have the old original ethernet driver, for your PC/motherboard.

Then setup your connection again and it should be OK.
