  1. Windows 10 not booting after SSD upgrade (other drive)

My PC had a 128GB SSD which contained a linux installation. I also had a 1TB HDD installed that contains my Windows 10 LTSC installation.

I ran out of space on my linux SSD so I bought a 1TB SSD to replace this. My problem is that when I remove my linux SSD and replace it with the new larger SSD (The windows HDD is left alone), windows will no longer boot.

I have a theory that windows is installed across the 2 drives (perhaps the windows MBR is located on the linux SSD or something?), and when I replaced the SSD the BIOS can no longer locate the MBR and refuses to boot.

Ideally what I want is my HDD to have windows installed, and linux installed on the new SSD.

Any ideas how to achieve this layout without reinstalling windows again?

  3. Win 10 clean install question

This is what I would do:
    • Shrink the hard drive partition until it's small enough to fit on the SSD.
    • Clone the Windows 8.1 setup to the SSD.
    • Boot off the SSD and make sure that Windows 8.1 is happy (i.e., no complaints about activation).
    • Upgrade to Windows 10 on the SSD.
This way, you know that Windows 8.1 has a valid setup on the SSD before doing anything else. Plus, the Windows 10 upgrade will be processed much faster on the SSD. Finally, you still have the hard drive setup to fall back to if anything goes wrong.

Windows 10 not booting after SSD upgrade (other drive)

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.
