Windows 10: Windows 10 not recognising samsung 512gb sdxc evo plus

I've just recently brought a Samsung 512gb Evo Plus SDXC micro sd card and windows 10 won't recognise the card.


When I plug it in to my laptop I hear the sound of a device being connected, then a screen pops up saying 'you need to format the disk in f: drive' and when I click on format disk, the format window pops up but says the drive is only 7.9gb and when I click on format it gives an error saying 'cannot access drive'.


If I click on cancel format drive it just says 'cannot access drive' again.


I've gone into device manager and the f: drive comes up under portable devices and when I click on it and try update drivers it doesn't find any.


Can anyone help?

Samsung Readies SSD 960 EVO Based on New "Polaris" Controller

This is not always true: The Samsung 850 EVO 1TB features the exact same controller as the Samsung 850PRO (Samsung MEX controller), which is also used on all the smaller 850 PROs. The Samsung 850 EVO 2TB and 4TB variants also uses the same controller as the 850 PRO 2TB (Samsung MHX).
So only the smaller EVO variants (<= 512GB) uses a lower end controller (Samsung MGX).

The specs of these controllers are as follows:

• Samsung MGX (850 EVO <= 512GB): 2 cores, 550 MHz, max. 512MB LPDDR2 RAM
• Samsung MEX (850 PRO <= 1TB, 850 EVO 1TB): 3 cores, 400MHz, max. 1GB LPDDR2 RAM
• Samsung MHX (850 PRO/EVO >= 2TB): 3 cores, 400MHz, max. 2GB LPDDR3 RAM

Architecture is ARM Cortex R4 on all of those controllers, if that matters.

 

PC won't recognise 64 Gb SDXC card


I bought 2 64Gb SDXC cards back in September and my PC running Windows 10 PRO recognised these cards and I was able to write to them. I bought another one a few days ago, but the PC will not recognise the card and when I tried the 2 cards I already had again, it wouldn't recognise them either. The PC will read an 8Gb Kingston 133X card and lots of other small cards without problems. My laptop will read these SDXC cards without problems. It is running Windows 10 Home, which is also Version 1709, build 16299.98 & both laptop & PC are running what appears to be the same driver - a generic Microsoft driver dated 21/9/2006 version 10.0.16299.15 Also my digital camera and my Panasonic video camera will recognise the cards. I've tried updating the PC driver, but Windows insists that the driver installed is the best available. The PC has just done a big Windows update but that hasn't cured the problem. I'm baffled - has anybody got any suggestions?I don't really want to roll back to any old version of Windows, especially as I've no idea when the problem started. The card reader is built in to the PC and came bundled with the machine (about 7 years old) and appears to be some generic make as there is no manufacturer's name visible. I've ordered a plug-in card reader to see if that will work, but I'm not hopeful.

 

Win10 clean install on Samsung SSD 850 EVO

BLUF: SSD is not listed ubder "Where do you want to install Windows?"

Steps Complete:

1. I've create a Win10 bootable install usb.

2. I connect the new Samsung SSD 850 EVO via SATA.

3. I reboot PC and verify SSD is seen by the motherboard/BIOS

4. Begin Win10 install via usb.

5. Get to "Where do you want to install Windows?" and the SSD is not listed

Problems:

1. Samsung does not offer a driver for the 850 on their website

2. Cannot locate driver elsewhere

Unsuccessful Mitigations Steps Attempt:

A. Format & partition SSD via Windows Disk Management, then retried steps 1-5 above....same result

B. Clone existing HHD onto SSD via "Image for Windows" by TeraByte, then verified SSD contents via Windows Explorer....similar result

Can you please offer some advice on locating a driver for a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB drive? Or an alternative method?
