this problem that windows has is really weird. i have 2 laptops running windows 10 pro (creators update) and a virtual machine running on one of them(windows server 2012 r2).
after each restart one or two of these computers disappear from network folder. this problem happens for all these computers. the thing is i can ping all these machines from other computers on the network. I also can access them by typing their names in address bar like (\\computer1\ or \\computer2\ etc) but they are not appear in the network section. the image might help you to understand the problem better :

as you can see on the first computer i can see all computers on the network. on the 2nd one(virtual) i have only see my Surface and on my surface i cannot see the other two.
now I type the name of the computers in my Surface file explorer address bar and look at this :

first computer(Alienware) appears on the quick access area but still missing from network section
is there any fix for this problem?

    :)

Windows 10: network computers not showing in file manager: crator's update?

This will most likely remedy your issue as it did for me.

    1) Open "Control Panel"

    2) Open "Network and Internet"

3( Open "Network and Sharing Center"

    4) Open "Advanced sharing settings"

In your current network "profile" look for "Turn On Automatic Setup Of Network Connected Devices" and
    REMOVE the check from it.

Look for the change in File Manager.

This is what worked for me.

Windows 10: network computers not showing in file manager: crator's update?

Over the past few months i have noticed as a computer is updated to the crator's edition, the computer no longer displays the other computers on the local network.

Most of them show themselves, some do not. (At least one folder is shared.)

I can use the network name, eg \\music, and the named computer will open. All computers will open when using the name.

Network troubleshooter finds no problem. All computers have internet access.

Restarting modems and routers and hubs provides no joy.

I have been supporting windows computers for 25 years. I currently support 70+ windows computers for 15 clients.

So, please, don't post any boilerplate responses.

Many thousands of google hits about this. Yet, little here at MS. Why? This has been happening for months.

Anybody have clue how to fix this?

When windows looks for PC on a network it doesn't actually look it goes to the master browser which gives it a list. If it's out of date you don't see it this will happen if a PC is offline for a bit or its updated. It's all done via NetBIOS so pinging by name may update mb

pinging by name did not solve the problem. is there any way to update the master browser list?

    Yes, force an election:
    NET STOP Browser
    NET START Browser
Not sure it will help, though.

Your email address can be seen in the attachment *Haha

If you run this tool on each pc it often does it and it shows which is MB normally that would be highest ranking ie a server NetBScanner - NetBIOS scanner

That is exactly what I've done to resolve what I believe is exactly the same key issue I have with the Creator's Update. I created it as a batch, and scheduled it to run with elevated privileges on startup, and then every 15 minutes thereafter. My home network and file shares are now working fine again with both post and pre Creators updates. I can't believe that Microsoft haven't released a patch to fix this yet!?!?

If you have the Creators Edition of Windows 10 I haven't found a solution for getting the master browser to work with an Oppo which accesses my shares via SMB. If I start another Windows computer running the anniversary edition and make it the master browser then my Oppo can see it. I don't want to have to fire up another computer because MS can't get this figure it out. I informed MS of the issue the moment CU was released but haven't heard anything at all yet. I think they only look at it from a Windows to Windows browser issue and not from Windows to device. People with WD TV and other devices are reporting the same problem.

Yeah, I have exactly the same problem. I eventually managed to make my NAS's permanently accessible by adding them to 'Quick Access', but they won't appear in the 'Network' section.

My other two machines (laptop and PC) don't have this problem.

I reported the problem via the MS Feedback Hub.

  11. @flammobammo: Do you run that batch file on each of the PCs on your network?

  12. Please could you tell me precisely what you have done to fix this,I have tried everything to no avail I'm not sure about the batch and the elevated privileges you mention ,I would really appreciate any advice.

my problem is identical if I start no1 pc up first, then start the 2nd pc the no1 pc shows all the available pcs on the network with the 2nd pc displaying none, and the same happens vice versa

Well, for no apparent reason, after a couple of weeks of not appearing under 'Network', my NAS's have spontaneously reappeared as if nothing had happened...

    Weird.

  14. Hi HowardWoodard, sorry I didn't notice this until now. No, I only ran it on the computer that I was trying to share from. Although please be aware that this fix worked great for a couple weeks after my post above, but then stopped again, and I became despondent about it and decided to wait a month for Microsoft to catch up before I came back on the forums again for help.

  15. Hi Badger300100,

If you create a text file, but change the .TXT to .BAT, then anything inside that .BAT file, when double-clicked, will be executed. The contents of my MasterBrowser.bat file is:
    net stop browsernet start browser
Then in the Cortana search bar, type 'scheduler' and load the Windows 10 Task Scheduler app
From there, you can create a task to run your new batch file, with a whole bunch of different options.
HOWEVER, this only worked for 2, maybe 3 weeks for myself, until Windows had another update, or something changed on my PC behind my back, and then my master browser routine to keep updating itself suddenly stopped working. I know it worked fine for weeks because I was using network-based music playing through the house, and then was devastated when it repeatedly wouldn't work anymore, and I had to go back to low quality streaming radio windows 10 not showing computers in network in file browser :) I literally had not fiddled with any settings on my PC at all in this time, only security software (Comodo) and Windows updates, and potentially a VPN software update.

Finally I though okay I've wasted enough time, Microsoft broke this as far as I'm concerned (originally first issue with Creators update), and hopefully enough people smarter and more knowledgeable than myself will get this sorted and post a solution, and I'll come back in a month when it is available. After an intensive several hours of google searching, trial and error, I've found my latest fix:
    - I removed my Master Browser scheduled task and deleted the batch file entirely
    - In 'Network Connections' - 'Change Adapter Settings', I right-click my connection and go to Properties
    - I had read somewhere on some forum ... that you need to make sure your 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks' is checked.

Now I've got absolutely no idea what 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks' checkbox actually does, and Windows seems to have no descriptor at all, other than "Allows other computers to access resources on your computer using a Microsoft network". This is so vague, but someone on some forum somewhere suggested it should be checked, and mine wasn't. I checked it, and hit Apply, and it didn't fix it. I went back into the settings, and it was still unchecked, so I checked it again. I went back into the settings, and it was unchecked again, and so I thought okay, something funny going on here, it's not saving my checkbox tick. So I checked it again, hit apply, unchecked it, hit apply, then rebooted, then went back again, checked it, apply, reboot, and finally it remained checked. At least from memory I thought it did. And since then, it's worked perfectly, I can access the network shares on my Windows 10 Creators PC with the June updates.

The weird thing is though, I go back now to look at that checkbox, and ..... drumroll .... it's unchecked. I still don't know what that checkbox ACTUALLY does, it's not checked, but mucking around with that checkbox fixed my issue.

On another PC in my network, I ended up having to reinstall Windows after about 30 attempts of installing the correct graphics card driver, and then having Windows automatically destroy the driver with an incorrect one, and not being able to see the screen any more. After reinstalling Windows it all worked fine. I suspect that this PC is due for a Windows reinstall, but I've got too much software running just the way I like. Next year I'll either avoid upgrading Windows entirely, reinstall Windows after a format, or at least not upgrade on the bleeding edge, but wait for the guinea pigs to jump off the edge first.
