  1. Windows 10 Not Working - No Solution

I'm sure you have answered this before and I have tried looking everywhere but I can't find a solution. This is my problem.

I installed the free update for Windows 10 on my Windows 7 computer. It worked fine for some time. After a while, probably in September/early October my Start Menu wasn't opening and my search bar next to it wasn't working. Every time I clicked the Start Menu button, a pop up would tell me I needed to restart my computer. I found a solution for that by right clicking the Start Menu button, clicking command prompt (admin) and then inputting 'Poweshell' then clicking 'Enter' and then inputting 'Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}' and then clicking Enter.

This usually solved my problem for when I was using the computer at that time but if I turned off the computer, it would not work again. I managed to work without needing to use the Start Menu which is fine.

As of yesterday, Google Chrome will not open. I have Mozilla Firefox and it will open. I tried doing what I explained above to fix the Start Menu thinking that was what was wrong with Chrome but now when I click 'Command Prompt (Admin)' it brings up an error pop up.

In all this is my problem:

    - Start Menu doesn't open
    - Search bar doesn't work
    - Command Prompt (Admin) doesn't open/work
    - Google Chrome doesn't open

I hope someone can help me. I really do like Windows 10 but I may have to go back to my original system. If there is no way to help me, please at least tell me how to uninstall the Windows 10 and go back to my old system keeping in mind my Start Menu doesn't open.

Thank you for your time and help.

    :)

Devestated! No solution is working for DNS not responding.

I am seeing several things in your Event Viewer which look a little strange. I have not seen a description of your system, but have you checked for any updated drivers for it?

This is one item I would check. It is normally listed with the System Devices in Device Manager.

Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework : ESIF(8.1.10600.147) TYPE: ERROR

Anyone else at work having a problem?

I notice you are showing a .254 for your Default Gateway address. That may be totally normal for your system, but just checking.

Did this seem to happen after a Windows update?

You probably already tried your Ethernet ..

I remember a comment about Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct causing problems on some systems. It may only show up in Device Manager if you look at Hidden Devices.

Maybe auggy can track down the problem device issue. I don't remember a device with that exact listing but as he states, in Device Manager you may have a listing with a mark or shown as Unknown.

You can try doing a Windows refresh by going to the settings update or recovery option in the action center. once you install the November update I don't think you can go back to the old system. I'm not 100% sure about that though.

The first check should be SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt to repair any errors. Come back for more advice if that shows errors which SFC can't fix.

If the above fix fails, you can try an in place repair install which will avoid the need to reinstall your programs - see Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

  6. Thank you two for your responses. Steve C I followed your steps and am currently trying to refresh my PC as stated in the guide you brought me to. A screen came up in the middle asking me to choose my keyboard layout and my mouse and touchscreen are not working. I tried using the keyboard. There is no cancel or okay button. What do I do? (I am writing this from my phone)

Do a full restart and try again - you can hold down the power on button for several seconds on most laptops to do this. I don't know what hardware you are using, but Intel USB ports may be more reliable than any third party ports on your PC. I would restart the PC and try using an external wired mouse and keyboard plugged into the Intel USB ports - your motherboard manual should say which are the Intel ports. Hopefully, the full restart will ensure you can use your laptop's keyboard and touch screen.
