  3. Question about Windows 10 Anniversary Update

If you are activated you will get the anniversary update via windows updates. There will probably be ISO'S made available but MS has not yet announced it

The AU will be started on Aug2, dont count on getting it for a couple of days as they have 350 million devices to upgrade.

    Anniversity upgrade

Maybe. If you are upgraded (AND activated) there will be ISO's available. It may not be exactly on Aug 1 as there are ~ 350 million upgrades to preform

How many are running Windows 10 simply because their machine decided to update itself?

Probably a few percent but doubtful if a large percentage of the overall install base.

350 milllion is a lot but far from the 1 billion that MS set for its goal.

I think a great part of that numbers are coming from the "new" sold PC.

Those numbers are for popularity chasers, as far as I'm concerned one good OS that works on my computers is quite enough.

  10. Based on that logic, W7 trumps all in the desktop/laptop segment (~1 billion users).

Windows 10 has its faults but it's pretty sleek and works well. I just hate how you have to upgrade just to defer patches and updates.

Also updating Windows 7 each month has become much slower and more of a headache than it used to be. On patch Tuesday I get my two main computers done, my wife's laptop, and will come back to the 7 computer... which is usually still "checking for updates."

I have been using Windows 10 for so long that the last time I used my laptop that still has Windows 7 I was completely lost. I felt like a computer newbie.
