Windows 10 October 2018 Update might delete your files on some PCs

Microsoft released the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) to all users globally a couple of days ago. The company is rolling out the update in stages to fix any issues found during installation of the update.

Some of the users are reporting that the installation of the latest Windows 10 version 1809 is causing files stored in the libraries to be deleted from the PCs without any warning during installation. These files include documents, photos, music and more.

This issue is being caused for users upgrading from the previous version of Windows 10, the April 2018 Update. Users have also complained that there is no option to recover the deleted files if they have not performed any backup before installation.

One of the Reddit users has confirmed that the files are getting deleted and there is no option to recover them if there has been no backup performed.

“It did happen to one of my PCs. Took out the SSD and attached it to my main PC using SATA to USB 3 and the drive was almost empty. I had backups, so that wasn’t a big issue for me. The only thing listed was a Windows.old and the regular Upgrade folder,” Reddit user SonicHyuga explains in a post.

Currently, there has been no word from Microsoft as to what is causing the bug to delete the files from the libraries and there doesn’t seem to be a workaround to recover the deleted files. Even rolling back doesn’t seem to help users in recovering the deleted files.

We are not sure if the issue is affecting all the PCs which are currently installing the latest Windows 10 version or is it impacting only specific PCs. We are currently awaiting a response from the Microsoft in regards to the fix.

If any of our users have not upgraded to the latest Windows 10 version 1809, then we recommend them to back up the data first, as recommended by all tech companies.

Windows 10 April 2018 Update(SCU) Partially Breaks MKV File Support?

I updated to main computer to the April 2018 Update, AKA Spring Creators Update, and it seems like they've taken a step backward with MKV file support. When I go into the properties of an MKV file on the Fall Creators Update, if I go to the details tab it gives me a bunch of detail about he media file, like resolution, framerate, audio information and bitrate. However, if I go into the same file's properties on the April 2018 Update, almost all of the information is blank, it only gives me a runtime and bitrate.

I really just want to confirm that this isn't just my computer and other's are experiencing the same thing.
