    Windows 10 often freezing with 100% disk usage and very high RAM usage


    My laptop often freezes when using basic apps such as Firefox or WhatsApp. It's been 2 years since it gradually started to slow down. I tried to follow the steps shown in this video : Disque dur à 100% d'utilisation, la solution, but I didn't encounter any lag only for few hours.

    When my laptop freezes, the D: usage (HDD) cranks itself to 100% for ±1 min.

    Also, the ram usage is always very high, and I easily get 4.0Gb used out of 7.9 with only the task manager opened, and it can go up to 7.7 out of 7.9 with ±5 tabs opened in Firefox, with it being the only running software.

    I also noticed that the gaming performance was way below what it should be (I have a i5-7200u paired with a GT940MX and I'm only getting ~22fps in GTA V with the lowest graphics possible at 768p where I should be getting ~35fps with very high graphics at 768p).

    One last thing to note is that whilst using moderately demanding softwares (2D games, screen recorders, PowerPoint, etc...), my PC immediately starts to overheat and the vents start spinning very fast. I recently "disassembled" this laptop to dust if off.

    I have an ASUS UX410UQ-GV084T with - i5-7200u - Nvidia gt940mx - 8GB RAM @2133MHz (SODIMM) - C: SSD 128GB SanDisk SD8SNAT128G1002 - D: HDD TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050

    In the Task Manager, under Performance tab, the disk utilization reaches to 100% due to which system became lagging and unresponsive. It started freezing in few moments and this keeps happening until disk usage reduces from 100%.

    Control panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Processor Power Management > Maximum Processor state.

    Also, once I start Chrome 64, it uses lots of cpu and ram to do absolutely nothing.

    Windows 10 - High Disk Usage - 100%

    I am seeing high disk usage, often between 90 and 100%.

    I have tried adjusting some settings, some help temporarily but after a restart I have the same high disk usage issue.

    • Disable superfetch
    • Disable Windows Search
    • Disable Windows Update
    • Disable Geolocation Services
    • Disable Network Services
    • Manually adjust paging file size for programs and background services
    • Got rid of apps (no chrome, got rid of bloat like Amazon, etc.)
    The main user of disk usage appears to be Service Host Local System 13 and it uses anywhere between .5 and 10 MB.

    Below is a snip of the task manager. Computer is Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series. 4 GB RAM, 64 bit operating system and AD A4 processor if that helps.

    Any ideas on how to resolve the high disk usage issue permanently?
