Windows 10: Windows 10 - one printer with two queues under one print queue.

Since upgrading to Windows 10, the users are getting a popup stating that the printer they are printing to is unavailable. The job still prints.


We have two applications that use the same printer. We accomplished this by setting up two print queues using the same driver. Under Devices and Printers there is one queue showing, "Receipt", but if you go to open any of the option for this queue, there are two queues showing, Receipt and Receipt Printer. One application uses Receipt and the other uses Receipt Printer. It is the application that uses the Receipt queue that will get the popup stating that the printer is unavailable.


Is there a setting or something that can be changed to allow this queue to be available?

Automatically show print queue?

Hello Gerry,

I'm not certain for how to have the printer queue automatically open, but you should have a printer queue icon in the taskbar notification area whenever you have a print job that you can click on to open it.

If you like, you could also use the method in the tutorial below to create a shortcut of the printer queue.

Removed printer, name still appears with print queue inside

Hi

Recently I have added a printer, sent a print command but did not go through. So I have removed the printer, and may be the print queue was in it still. Now the printer name do not appear in Device and Printers list but when I want to print something from
Office applications, I still see the name on the drop down menu and the name shows that the queue is still inside.

Can anyone suggest how I can get rid of the name and the queue?

To check if there is a corruption on your Print Queue, try manually clearing the Print Queue

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

On the resulting list, right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator“

Paste the following commands into Command Prompt, one at a time and press Enter after each one:

net stop spooler

del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q

net start spooler

The print queue on your Windows should now be cleared.

Close Command Prompt

If that does not resolve the Print Queue behavior, go to the support page for your printer on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and install the recommended drivers and associated software . . .
