Windows 10: Windows 10 only allows 260 characters - crash

Hi there,

I have a few folders with a lot of subfolders which brings me to the limit of characters of the file path.

My System is:

Windows 10 Pro
Version 1703
System Build 15063.674
64-Bit

In order to be able to have more subfolders, I have already tried to remove the 260 character limit by running gpedit.msc and enabling "NTFS long paths" (Local Computer Policy>Computer>Configuration>Administrative Templates>System>Filesystem).

However, when I put a long file into a folder which would then exceed the 260 limit, explorer crashes.

Has someone an idea how I can once and for all remove the 260 charater limit?

Starting with build 14352 of Windows 10, which is part of the Anniversary Update (version 1607), this limitation can be bypassed.

Has anyone tried this?

The limit still applies, unfortunately, despite hopes of its removal.

I've found that site searches generally don't return useful results (most websites). *Sad

Strangely enough, the exact same search typed into Google (using the site filter) will almost always return useful results. *Confused
