One problem I had with Win.10 was that I could not burn CD/DVD's. I could go online, download an iso file, and try burning it to a disc, only rarely would it work. I tried DVD's of other write speed, once in a while it would work, mostly no. I could take the same file, move it to my Win.7 machine and never fail to burn it. This prompted me to think, if I have to use Win 7 for the serious stuff, why bother with Windows 10 at all. I still have Win. 10 booted on 2 machines, but I rarely go there.

I have done a clean install of Win 10 on 2 machines. I already had a Win 10 license for one machine, for the home edition so I put that on there. I took the other machine to a computer shop and paid to get the Pro edition on that one. The pro edition is definitely better.

  5. Hi,
Yep win-7 works reliably has for the entire time I've used it MS and gwx tried hard to mess it up
Since 7's release I have clean installed 2 times
1st was to get rid of all of acer's crapware so it doesn't really count *Biggrin
2nd was my bad for dual booting with win-10 on the same disk

I personally lost track of how many clean installs of 10 I've done to fix things that just return,
10 to me is just a toy to play with every blue moon to benchmark new hardware
Once done 10 goes back in a drawer.

Win 10 is set to use USB drives, next month when I go to Fry's Electronic to buy 8GB memory, I have to get some more USB's to back up files and such.

My Win 7 I did clean install on a ACER Aspire 5515 with Vista home basic, that was all it was basic windows to make it run, I bought a upgrade to Home Premium and couldn't use cause ACER removed files it needed to use to upgrade, I went looking a full version of Vista and they were discontinued then, 7 wasn't out yet, salesman at Compusa showed me a System Builders Service Pack of Win 7 Home Premium X32, bought it for $99. Installed it, used drivers from ACER and Emachine. the 5515 didn't come with Win 7 but the Emachine E620 which was the same as the 5515 did.

I would like to thank everyone for their input on this thread. Combined with the advice I have received from others, relative to their own experience with Windows, I have been trying out various Apple products. I am especially swayed by Apple users who have recently switched from Windows. I will definitely be going this route, as Apple is the only system that can actually replace Windows completely, and in the area of photos particularly, being definitely superior. Now that I have made up my mind, I will be doing this, sooner rather than later.
It only remains as to the choice of machine, most likely a laptop. As a side note, the people I talk to in the business world still regard XP as the best Windows system ever made. Everything after Windows 8 appears to have benefited Linux and Apple to a greater extent than anyone could have imagined.*Party*Party

I would like to point out that it was not my intention
to open or inflame an A vs B vs C "war" replying, in the
end it's a good thing to have a choice and everyone should just
try and find what's the best tool for him, and not listen to
all the "this is better than that..." BS to which I
contributed, and i regret havin done so, lesson learned.*Smile
