  1. Windows 10 OS, BTTray.exe failed to start, BtBalloon.dll was not found

This is a long-standing problem with older Windows computers that run Broadcom Bluetooth driver and control software.

Broadcom supplied various versions of Bluetooth hardware for a number of PC brands in the 2000-2010 period.

BTTray is the Broadcom control app that, when properly installed, appears in the bottom task-tray (I think).

My problem is with a Dell Inspiraon N7010 that had its Bluetooth driver erased when I installed Win 10. The only Broadcom BT drivers and BTTray apps that Dell offers are for Window 7. Getting them to install under Win 10 is a tough under-taking which involves using the Compatibility settings to fool the drivers software into believing it is running under Win 7.

But once BTTray (WIDCOMM) is successfully installed it begins to complain after booting that it cannot run because it cannot locate the Broadcom BTBalloon.dll. For years now people have asked Microsoft support how they can replace BTBalloon.dll.

Here is what I believe that I have discovered:

Each Broadcom installation package comes with a file BBalloon.dll. It comes in 32 and 64-bit versions. During a successfull installation of the Broadcom package its Setup.exe installs BBalloon.dll somewere and renames it BTBalloon.dll.

I was able to stop the boot error by manually renaming the file and by adding the new Broadcom installation folder path to the system environment path variable.

My only problem now is successfully re-installing the BT device drivers. I accomplished this once before before I performed a clean installation of Win 10. But now the device manager will not recognize any of the BT driver files and the driver installation software will not function under Win 10.

I hope this will be of some help to others.

    :)

Cannot Install Windows 10 Error 80070002

    Hi Jmarco0921,

for the method I used above, I did the already deletion in the
    /windows/softwaredistribution/download.

Following your advice, I did the manual reset method twice (also the step 4). But some of my dll files are failed to load during the reregister the BITS step. Below are the dll files that failed to load:

    • regsvr32.exe shdocvw.dll
    • regsvr32.exe browseui.dll
    • regsvr32.exe msxml.dll
    • regsvr32.exe gpkcsp.dll
    • regsvr32.exe sccbase.dll
    • regsvr32.exe slbcsp.dll
    • regsvr32.exe initpki.dll
    • regsvr32.exe wuaueng1.dll
    • regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
    • regsvr32.exe wuweb.dll
    • regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll

After doing the manual reset twice, I still could not manage to install the Win 10. It always
failed at 42% during preparing installation phase.

    KB4013429 Failing to install.

I have followed the instructions listed in the link you have provided but received several errors along the way.

Step 3 produced a path not found error

I first attempted these instructions without step 4 as indicated, the overall outcome was the same.

On my second attempt I carried out step 4

After this I went to windows update and clicked search for updates which proceeded to download and install updates, after being prompted for a reboot the update fails again which appears to be the same as the initial error.

Any other suggestions? I really don't want to have to re-format my PC again.

Windows 10 OS, BTTray.exe failed to start, BtBalloon.dll was not found

    Windows Updates failed to instal

I'm not sure how differant XP media center Edition is but you could clear the history \ cache if these folders are there.

    Step 1 Register DLL files.

    =================

By trying this step, we can check if the update engines are working properly.

    1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.

    2. Click Start and Run, type "Regsvr32 atl.dll" (without quotes) in the Open box and click OK.

Note: There is a space between regsvr32 and atl.dll

    3. Similarly, one by one, register the files listed below:

    Regsvr32 msxml3.dll

    Regsvr32 wuapi.dll

    Regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

    Regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll

    Regsvr32 wups2.dll

    Regsvr32 wucltui.dll

    Regsvr32 wups.dll

    Regsvr32 wuweb.dll

    Regsvr32 qmgr.dll

    Regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

    Regsvr32 jscript.dll

Note: If you encounter errors while registering any of these files then skip that file and continue with the next one.

If the issue persists, let's move on to the steps below to verify Windows Update services and temporary folders.

Step 2 Verify the relevant Windows Update services.

    =========================================

    1. Click Start->Run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.

    2. Double click the service "Automatic Updates".

    3. Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option "Local System account" is selected and the option "Allow service to interact with desktop" is unchecked.

    4. Check if this service has been enabled on the listed Hardware Profile. If not, please click the Enable button to enable it.

    5. Click on the tab "General "; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic" or "Manual". Then please click the button "Stop" under "Service Status" to stop the service.

    6. Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start the service.

    7. Please repeat the above steps with the other services:

    Background Intelligent Transfer Service

    Event Log

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Note: Event log service is enabled on all of the hardware profiles; this service does not have an option to enable or disable on certain hardware profile.

If it still does not help, let's proceed to step 3.

Step 3 Reload the Update temporary folders.

    ===================================

One possible cause is that the temporary folder for Windows Update is containing corrupted files. Let's erase all the files there to get the system clean.

    1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window.

    Net stop WuAuServ

    2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.

    3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.

    4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window.

    Net start WuAuServ

Please test the Windows Update website and let me know the result. If the issue persists, to clarify the issue and provide more accurate troubleshooting steps, please assist me in collecting the following information.
