Windows 10: Windows 10 Parallel Drive Access?

This is more of a lower-level question, and I'm a Unix guy in general so forgive my ignorance, but how does the Windows 10 I/O stack work with respect to drive access?


In particular, is it multi or single-threaded?


For example, I have two M2 SSDs in my machine. OS on one, apps on the other. Will Windows 10 be able to speed things up up reading from two drives at the same time, or reading from one while writing to the other in real-time? Or does it block and switch off. I realize this would happen so rapidly that it would appear that they were being used simultaneously, but it would actually be single-access. Does NTFS even support multi-file access, or is it single-tasking like Mac's older HPFS+?


Does anyone know how the Windows 10 kernel handles disk access?

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
