I wonder what the percentage is between those who chose to upgrade and those who purchased new devices with Windows 10. Either way Win 10 is on a upward swing. *Smile

  3. Windows 10 "by-passes" the line-in control of my sound card

Through my sound card line-in socket I use Audacity to record music onto computer. I monitor progress with speakers driven by the same sound card. If I then mute the line-in socket (NOT the volume control) using the W10 Volume Mixer / Speakers Properties
/ Levels facility the speakers are, indeed, muted. However, Audacity continues to receive the signal from the line-in socket and continues to record - i.e. the line-in socket has not, actually, been muted. This does not seem right to me and I do not recall
    this behaviour with W7.

I believe this has also caused problems by running a duplicate (parallel?) signal through the "What You Hear" volume control and lost me considerable time analysing why the sound was so confused. (Disabling the "What You Hear" control was my only successful
    option).

    Any ideas Microsoft?

Windows 10 "by-passes" the line-in control of my sound card

    Hi Deepak,

To give you more of the picture:

I have a Creative Soundblaster PCIe X-fi Platinum sound card in a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UDR3 motherboard. I connect the sound card to my hi-fi amplifier through the line-in socket of that sound card. So connected, anything that is
playing on the hi-fi, whether CD, tape, radio or turntable can be played through the computer’s speakers.

No patent software, Windows Media Player or similar is invoked or otherwise running, to my understanding. There are no other audio inputs to the computer and I am not streaming sound off the internet.

In Device Manager all audio devices – except the X-fi – are disabled.

Under Volume Mixer I have three volume controls: Speakers, System Sounds and Audacity – all muted.

Under Volume Mixer / Sound / Playback / I have Speakers: Creative SB X-fi, Default Device; SPDIF Out: Creative SB X-fi, Disabled.

Under Volume Mixer / Sound / Recording I have Microphone FP: Creative SB X-fi Disabled, unplugged; Line-In: Creative SB X-fi Default Device; Digital In: Creative SB X-fi Disabled; “What You Hear”: Creative SB X-fi Disabled.

Under Volume Mixer / Speakers / Speaker Properties I have Play Control, Microphone FP, Digital-In, Midi Synth ,Line-In 1/Mic - all muted.

Despite all the above Audacity is still registering input from the hi-fi.

I still have not resolved the problems I had when I tried to record using the “What You Hear” facility of the sound card, but leave that aside for the moment and perhaps I will raise it as a separate issue if I cannot resolve
    it myself.

I think you have here the entire “picture”. I have to say I was caught “off-guard” when I realised that the line-in continued to feed the sound card when “muted”. However, that may be how it is expected to work rather than how
    I expect it to work?

    Thanks in anticipation

  5. I did both here! When the old 7 laptop upgraded to 10 quit I had to go out and buy a new 10 one! *Smile Of course I was running 10 so many times on two desktops and the VMs on those too! "Busy 10s"! *Eek*Biggrin

Think that was bad wait until you Double Duty in action!

  7. A lot of that was based on how MS made a major change to the 10 app no longer seeing the Reserve your copy of 10 option to Immediate upgrade or delayed upgrade where you could only hit the X or Task manager to get out of it! That came at the start of February there.

Actually in restrospect to 7 you have to see how 20% is next to nothing in comparison to how well 7 flew off of the shelves back in 2009! The 20% shows progress for 10 but not anywhere what 7 had seen following the 8 Flop! 8.1 rushed to replace 8 kept a percentage in the progressive upgrade lines and with most still running 7 a worry about 10 being a bad taste in the mouth that 8 brought would tend to slow the pace a bit. And this is what MS had to take a serious look at when deciding to bring on the Free Upgrade to 10 deal.
