Windows 10: windows 10 pc bootrec /fixmbr not working

My windows 10 pc is not starting up, I have watched multiple videos on how to fix this problem, in command prompt all videos say to enter "bootrec /fixmbr" after this 1st command my pc responds with "the system cannot find the file specified" ? can anyone please help

Bootrec /fixboot access denied. Various solutions not working

As alpha45 said the repair environment in the latest version of Windows 10 is not working correctly. I had the dreaded Boot Error 0xc000000e on my rig after using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), to remove my graphics driver.
I couldn't work out why that would have happened but I thought this will be an easy fix. Just run some bootrec commands from the command prompt and I'll be back in business. But no it wasn't to be. Firstly I tried a USB with Win 10 V1803 which has all versions on it;

Incidently I'm running Win 10 Pro V1803. I then ran the following commands;

bootrec /fixmbr operation completed successfully
bootrec /fixboot access denied
bootrec /rebuildbcd
a Windows installation found (great), add installation to boot list - yes - no device found. Great.

I remembered vaguely someone online mentioning that the latest Win 10 build had a problem with the repair environment and in looking online I found this post and the mention of that exact problem by alpha45 again prompted me to to try an earlier version to see what would happen. So I attempted the above using a DVD I had with Win 10 V1709, same result. So I then went hunting and found a copy of Windows 10 Pro V1603 I had on DVD and repeated the steps above. All steps were reported as successful. I shutdown the pc, restarted and Windows booted successfully. I was very relieved I can tell you. So thanks alpha45 and I think this post will help many others as well.

 

Duplicate Entries in Diskpart? + bootrec /fixboot /fixmbr broken

Windows 10 is unable to locate or read the file \WINDOWS\System32\winload.efi Says it was missing or contained errors... I looked for it myself, the file is there. bootrec /fixboot /fixmbr and /rebuildbcd all come back with the error "file could not be found".

Diskpart shows the primary harddrive has duplicate entries, I suspect this may be where the confusion is coming from. There is only one 1tb hard drive, but diskpart lists two. Is this an MBR problem? is the drive itself doing this?

Offline Sfc /scannow found no errors, chkdsk fixed errors, but problem persists. According to Diskpart, each disk has its own unique identifier. And interestingly, each of the duplicate EFI entries are unique, and have a different sized and dated bootx64.efi file.

The person that uses this computer is not technically inclined, and has not done anything to clone or mess with the operating system, she thinks she may have caught a virus. Any advice on fixing this problem? Can I manually remove the duplicate entries from within diskpart? Oddly, I did manage to boot into this windows machine one time with a secondary windows 11 efi bootloader running on an external ssd via yumi... however, it seems the machine was not happy with that, as every subsequent attempt to boot into windows after that failed.

• Restart the computer.
• Select "Advanced options" and then select "Command Prompt".
• If prompted, enter in the password for the user name.
• At the Command Prompt, type the following commands and hit enter.

bootrec /fixMBR

bootrec /Fixboot

bootrec /rebuildBCD

5. Restart the computer and check for the status.
