  1. Windows 10 PC bricked due to bad updates

    Hello,

I have been trying to restore my PC for about three weeks now.

As best I can tell an upgrade was completed. 2 upgrades have been deemed as bad upgrades. After a lot of effort I was able to access the update history and remove those updates.

At this point the computer is very slow. From boot to login takes an hour. Then when I can put in a pwd it will boot up but never finishes the login.

First, nice work. I have so much on that PC. Had I have known the risk such as this I would not automate updates. There must be class action suit coming with this as you have cost me a ton of time and possibly a lot more time and cost.

Second, I am thinking there must be a way around the boot. Probably a boot disk or flash drive. I can access the bios pre start up. Starting in safe mode has little impact especially as updates cannot be managed while in safe mode. I do not want to flatten this machine there is too much software and restoring it will lose it all. I will take the PC to a specialist if required but wondering if you have a solution like I outline.

    Thanks,

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/defer-upgrades-in-windows-10

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
