Windows 10: Windows 10 PC crashing at random times; flashing colors.

Hey guys, trying to troubleshoot a problem for a friend. He has a pc he built a few months back, which has recently become unstable. The problem presents like this: at seemingly random times the computer flashes a color and then goes to a black screen. The fans remain spinning and some lights are still on. but there is no display output and he has to force shutdown to get it back.


System info and what I've done so far:

The computer is running a Ryzen 5 2600, and an RX 570 on a Gigabyte B450M DS3H.

The bios is the latest beta with AGESA 1.0.0.4b.

I had read that these types of issues can be caused by insufficient power from the PSU, but the system has a 450w from EVGA, which should be sufficient for this build as far as I know.



The computer has also spit out some software crash info after these black screen events but the most common recurring error is this:

One of the app crash errors was with Radeon software, but this seems more like a result of the other problem rather than the actual problem :

The next step I had in mind was to try to boot from a Linux LiveUSB to potentially narrow it down to a Windows or HDD Issue.
I'm stumped on this one, let me know what other info you need, also let me know if I'm an idiot and it's obvious.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

 

Windows 10 Screen Flashing/inverting colors

Hi,

Since troubleshooting steps were provided, what I can suggest is for you to try to configure the settings on your monitor's color management. Kindly follow the steps provided below:

• Open Color Management by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type color management, and then click Color
  Management.
• Click the Advanced tab, and click Change system defaults.
• Click the Advanced tab in the Color Management - System Defaults dialog box, and do one of the following:
  
  - To prevent Windows from loading display calibrations, clear the Use Windows display calibration check box.
• Click Close in the Color Management - System Defaults dialog box.
• Click Close in the Color Management dialog box.
